Welcome Kit - one cool part ;)

I tried searching for 10 minutes for the original thread about 'how long till you got your welcome kit' but the search here is so dorked up, I can't bring it up. 'welcome' is listed as a common word, 'kit' is too short, and none of the other keywords seem to be indexed in that thread. Mug, CD, official, nothing is working.

Anyway, in that thread I noted that my MA never sent the paperwork for mine (big shock, he's sucked at everything else...I STILL have yet to receive the 'free shirts'...going on 4 months!) and Mini said 'Sorry, we'll get that right out!' And they sure did, thank you for the thought, Mini!

Unfortunately it's nothing like people described in past kits. This is litterally a waste of paper. It's nothing more than a blank book of note paper, a couple paper bingo cards, some gimicy little business cards, some stupid cd-sized sheets of cardboard you're supposed to put on your dash, so you can look 'cool' to other drivers when you park, a book on BMW financing to get you to switch, a little book that covers some FAQs (that is already in the owners manual), the 'Unofficial Owners Manual' that is pdf form on the site (nothing new there either) and some other garbage like a sheet of paper that says Welcome to Mini Ownership!.

EDIT - A cool little pen is included, it rolled out of the box and I missed it! They could save a lot of money by just shipping the pen ;)

kaelaria:

I really don't mind your rants. I actually find your posts amusing, but damn, you need to stop complaining about everything. Get in the car and drive, life is good.

i'd be happy if i got anything... got my car over a year ago and no welcome kit, no free t shirts, no nothing.
i was a bit disappointed at first, but oh well, i did get a CAR, and driving it is way more fun than a notepad and a t shirt!

Personally I think Kaelaria is just trying to hit 6th gear, the only way he knows how... one rant at a time.

Just messing with ya Kael... from your lowly 4th gearer (bows to 5th gear).

kaelaria Jun 21, 2005 04:06 PM

I praise things when they deserve it too! I just wanted to update the thread (that someone else started) because no one else posted that they had received one of the current kits, looks like I'm the first.

Itsdchz Jun 21, 2005 04:18 PM

I have been waiting for mine too after they said it will be coming, sorry it has never made it.... Now my bubble has burst :(

meanboy Jun 21, 2005 04:26 PM

You guys are suppose to get mug? Where's my MUG!

CeliaMarie Jun 21, 2005 04:32 PM

I got 2 front mats, a hat, mints, and a T-shirt when I picked up the car.

I had to bat my eyes and beg for the mats.

No welcome kit yet.

mdsbrain Jun 21, 2005 04:37 PM

My sister bought her MCC in January and her welcome kit just came last week. Almost 6 months waiting.

Back in the dark ages when people hadn't noticed the unstrategically placed front cupholders, MINI sent out a mug to make those poor owners happy (and stop ripping them a new cupholder to JD Powers.) See below link for pics and an idea of what they might cost on the open market.

Personally, I removed my '04 downtube cupholder and just use the rear one. That one was in a great spot - if you had an amputee passenger.

Ah is that it. I left the original one in because it great as a pda holder. My friend gave me an 05 cupholder that mounts to downtube. That thing kinda sucks cause the bottom isn't closed off. Bad for putting little pieces of junk in it.

Man, you all are spoiled....

When I bought mine, I got a car! That was it. No tow hook, nothing from the dealer, no nothing from Mini, just a car. Damn, I feel like an idiot for getting ripped off!

Matt

kaelaria Jun 21, 2005 06:00 PM

Man, you sure did! LOL

No tow hook! Now that IS getting ripped off. I managed to weasel a couple floor mats from the dealer, and I got the welcome kit, but kaelaria forgot to mention the ball point pen with the little floating MINI. That makes all the difference in the world!

I would have been very happy with a pen!! That would be something cool and useful!! I could keep it in the glovebox, or use it at work, show it off...pens are cool! Mugs were cool - I don't use them, but they look nice if you have a little themed collection or something!

You should have gotten one. I got the same kit that you did - plus pen. Maybe another line to MINIUSA is in order.

minihoopercooper Jun 21, 2005 06:11 PM

kaelaria Jun 21, 2005 07:02 PM

Greatbear Jun 21, 2005 07:13 PM

See... you didn't deserve the pen... so it tried to hide from you.

I'm not sure if you're really hard to please, or really easy to please...
But I AM sure you're getting to sixth gear one rant at a time!

PEP Jun 21, 2005 11:33 PM

I think it took 3-4 months to get my "welcome kit". I use the pen and notebook to record mileage.

No T-shirt, no mug, but one really cool car...
