For those of us fortunate enough to live in states not requiring a front license plate, a really cool idea can be found at Framptons. Seems that the plastic insert for front USA plates is fairly easily removed (2 screws and some double-sided tape). The European license plate (long and thin) can then be mounted on the front.

Being a child of the 80's and wanting to be somewhat understated, my Great Britain plate with the Union Jack on it will say "867 5309" No, her name's not Jenny, but I'll have the tune in the CD Changer at all times!!!

Anyone else considering this option? There are already a coupla pix on the website showing what it looks like. Given the MINI's heritage, it seems like a much better option than putting a USA front license plate on.

I live in Ohio where we are forced to use a front plate... YUCK!!!

I wonder if we could get away with a Euro style front plate if it was the same number/letter combo as our Ohio issued one???

Does anyone know if this will meet Ohio requirements?

Thanks, Paul

No front plates here in Florida! I got my UK front plate on Ebay ($5)!. There are a bunch of people on there selling all kinds of customizable license plates (they are typically more expensive than authentic plates). I picked up a EU plate mounting bracket on Ebay as well. Funny how I got my front plate before I got my MINI!

Had one of these on my Volvo Turbo that said "QUICK BRICK". But I don't really want to clutter up the font of my beautiful MCS. Besides, you still have to mount the "American" mounting thingamabob (giant hunk of ugly plastic).

I live in Virginia, which requires a front plate. But, me MINI doesn't have one. I prefer the front with no plate at all.

I still haven't found a true GB plate!! The left inch or so is blue with the union jack and "GB" on it. I've found fake Irish ones, and loads from Denmark but no GB's!! I ended up ordering an "old-school" brit plate like those on the Frampton's website with "SYO 724F" I knicked that off of The Beatles Abbey Road album cover (it's on the police van. I got that idea off of Oasis' Be Here Now album cover (it's on the Rolls Royce.)

Luckily in PA we don't have front plates!

Both bands' catalogs will get loads of playtime on the HK system in June!!

Cheers!
Bill

Not so. The "giant hunk of ugly plastic" comes out when you take out the 2 screws and pull off (dislodging the double-sided tape). Apply the new license plate w/ screws and/or double-sided tape.

Even if you don't choose to put on a Euro-plate, you should still remove the "giant hunk of ugly plastic" ASAP !!!

MINI looks SO much better without it!

I couldn't find any Euro plates I liked so I put a US type plate with a Union Jack on the front of my MINI. Here in Cali front plates are required but I haven't been pulled over yet, well I have but the cop just wanted to ask me about the car!

I don't know about MA but in Washington there are websites put out by state that describe if you can, and where you can put EU plates. Washington is... in the center either above or below your regular plate and it must not obstruct your regular plate.

I am on the fence of whether to put a plate on the front. I beleive that the reflective material is what radar bounces off of. I would guess that an aftermarket plate doesn't have that. Not that I speed or anything.

When I took delivery of Dolly, I had an idea for a front tag, albeit not Eurostyle. I drove all over the county looking for what I wanted, and finally found it. After having Dolly since June, and seeing all the Euros out there, I'm finally giving in and getting one. From what I read, Euro-sign.com is pretty good with them, has anyone had any problems with them? I'm going today to see if I can figure out how to take the US bracket off...boy, I hope I don't break anything

Just ordered a Euro plate to match my just odered Hawaiian plate-MINIAC.
MINIhune is out at sea finding her way home.
BTW, I asked the dealer to leave the US license plate thingy when she arrives. Both plates are required in Hawaii, but we'll see....

Does anybody know if a euro bracket is required for mounting? Or can it just go directly on the car.

You're right! "867-5309 (Jenny)" is definitely NOT a Squeeze song, but Tommy Tutone. Which begs a "Whatever Happened To?" thread.

Then again, maybe not.

my apologies on the phone number reference. I must have gotten all excited about the possibility of a Squeeze reference. That number should be 953-5937 (Angela can't make it to the telephone).

I'll be recieving a genuine long style NATO tag for mine in about a month, oh what fun!! It looks like the standard EU plate but instead of the yellow stars surrounding the country letter designation it's the NATO compass with USA under it.
