Update and question

Hey NAM,

So Friday I gave my dealer a call so that he could give me my production numbers and 7 digits of my VIN. Well, as I spoke to him he started wrestling through paperwork trying to find information about my car. I started getting a little worried, being that this was the second time that I called there and he couldn't find my paperwork. Then...a bright ray of light came from the sky and shone apon my house, (actually right in my eye, so I was blind for a few seconds) and the dealer said, "Oh, I didn't realize this, but your car is in production already!"

Let it be known, I fell on my ****. Supposedly the car was slated to enter production the second week of May, however, it's now slated to be completed the second week of May! (5/9/2005)

So here's one question, how long does it take, on average, to go from their completion to my dealer? Keeping in mind that we'll assume that there is good weather on the seas. How long does it take for a cargo ship to go from Europe to the US? I live in New York, so the ship would dock in Newark NJ, maybe an hour away from me.

Thanks!
-Nick

Congrats, Nick! Plan on your MINI being at the dealership in about 6 weeks. That seems to be the usual time-frame. Woo hooooo!!!

i'd say 5 weeks is a nice round estimate. if nothing goes wrong and ur really lucky 4 weeks, if for some reason the boat gets delayed or something of that nature prolly 6 weeks. regardless, you'll have it in time for summer

No offense, but that really pisses me off! I ordered on April 12th, and I'm still "Waiting for production, with no confirmed production date yet" I was originally told 6 weeks, now they're telling me a date 8-9 weeks away. Had I known it was going to be like this, I would've called all the MINI dealers in the US trying to see if they've got what I want and not ordered one. I'm not happy.

Here's my theory....Nick's car was part of the dealer's normal monthly allocation of MINIs and was already slated to be built, they just switched up the spec at the last minute to match what Nick wanted. Hence, it seems to get built really quick. Danielg's MINI was perhaps part of next month's allocation because all the previous slots for his dealer had been filled. So Daniel's seems to take a bit longer to get built. I have no idea if this is what happened, but it does happen, so that's my theory.

Really, waiting for a MINI is enough to fray anyone's nerves. Hold on though, it passes like a flash (in retrospect only....and its a really agonizing flash, too ) and you'll be motoring w/ a big grin from ear to ear!!!
