Thanks for posting the link.

This should be welcome information to NAM members who seemed quite upset about earlier Consumer Reports ratings for the MINI. 13 out of 100 is very good, just below the average for Audi and well above the averages for Mazda and Nissan. And in reading the accompanying article Consumer Reports recorded an amazing 5 out of 100 score for the 2004 Mustang although that stellar performance was not enough to raise the average rating for Ford as a whole, perhaps, or especially, considering the 49 out of 100 score for the Lincoln Navigator. Interesting rule of thumb stats there.

Best wishes.

Ford being the highest ranked American maker is news. From what I remember, Buick has quietly held that title for some time.

Surprising to me is Subaru, who I don't remember being known for reliable cars - especially since the latest Legacy is not that old.

The biggest disappointment is VW. All of their big 2004 sellers, the Jetta, Golf and Passat, are older models that should be sorted by now...

And BMW... I see not much has changed since the E36...

When I was considering buying a MINI last fall, I went to the library and looked in their annual auto issue. As I recall, the MINI was ranked "above average" and "well above average" in almost every area, yet their final "Expected reliability" rating was "much worse than average." Where did they come up with that? Some kind of prejudice against British cars?

Saw the issue

Well, at least the MINI is slowly moving up in CR's eyes... what's most impressive are the two solid red dots for satisfaction and resale value.

Sorta sums everything up, eh? Jimbo
