R50/53 Tensioner/pulley/supercharger noise?
Tensioner/pulley/supercharger noise?
Hello all-- I have been having this noise for a while now and ordered a new tensioner, belt (old belt has less than 15k on it), idler pulley. I also realized today I have a leaking valve cover and will address that as well. What are folks guess at the cause of the sound coming out of this region? I am worried the PTO is going out on the supercharger, but I see the tensioner is bouncing around a lot and there is not a hole showing on the tab, which makes me think it may be shot.
2006 s with 92k on the clock. 17% reduction on the last 30k. Supercharger has not been serviced yet.

Sound guess: bb's in a coffee can = belt tensioner damper, the little shock absorber that mounts on the front of it. New one comes on the new tensioner. Somewhat frequent failure item, mine went around 45K. The next time it goes out you'll know and they're about $20. If you have small hands you can reach over the motor and in through the back to change it out without pulling the tensioner again, believe it's a 7 or 8mm box wrench.

Or the belt is slipping, because of the shot tensioner or perhaps a smaller belt would work better with the combination you're running.
That said if you're running the factory crank pulley you're on borrowed time. When (not if) it fails you'll get burning smell + P1688 + limp mode, especially if you have the AC switched on which puts the belt drive under additional load. Would change it out when you swap out the tensioner (and the idler pulley and perform your way overdue supercharger service).

I should also mention a get a strange almost rubber burning smell at WOT above 4k or so. This also has me suspecting the crank pulley my be on its way out.
