R50/53 Heater Core Shut-off Valve
Heater Core Shut-off Valve
Has anyone installed a heater shut-off valve (meaning a valve that shuts of the water going to the heater core). I notice my right foot getting a bit warm & I figure shutting off the water to the core would cool it down a bit; & also make the A/C more efficient. Installing the valve is easy enough; just put it inline on the feed side of the heater core. But how to actuate it? My Ford truck has a shut-off valve that is vacuum operated; I'm just trying to figure out how to trigger it. Is the blend door vacuum operated? Or is it an electric servo motor? If it's vacuum operated, I could tee into that to shut off the water to the core.
Any ideas?

I'd rather do it automatically. Does anyone know if the blend door is actuated by vacuum or servo motor? The Ford valve would work beautifully if the climate control is vacuum operated.
if your car has automatic AC/heat system, the doors are operated by servo motors....if your car has the manual 3-**** style heater controls.....pretty sure those are operated by levers and possibly cables....
Fairly certain that vacuum operated systems we not in our cars...I don't see any reference to vacuum controlled items in the service manual

I think you may be correct. My car has climate control, so I may look for a heater valve that is servo operated. Either that, or get an electrically operated vacuum valve & have that actuate the Ford heater valve.
I know there is no water valve; that's what I'm talking about retrofitting one. What I'm looking for is useful information as to how to control the retrofitted valve.
