R53 Odometer is a series of lines and dots
I've a R53, bought brand new. Miles at 71,400 always garage kept.
Keep on battery charger tender. In winter run engine to keep it "ready", with tender removed. Started today and odometer shows a series of lines and dots at the top. Reviewing threads I did RESET, all I see is lines. I "lost" the (computer) on the steering wheel a few years ago after jumping car to get battery, dealer said no boot cable for that year. It has always started fine. Checked fuses shown to dash, they are fine. Battery 12.7v, charging at 14.3v. When started "Miles Inspection" appears, then followed by "Miles".
My problem: In WV cars are inspected every year, with miles recorded, required under law. Also, to sell it I must record miles on title when sold. Thus I am in a real bind. My not be able to drive for insurance may not cover, not be able to sell.
Dealer 2 hours away. Afraid fix expensive, maybe take time to get part, thus drive home, then back again.
Perhaps a Scan tool that can review the problem and/or show the OD miles?
Ideas?
I love my car, 21 years. Bummed out.
TY

I found a local firm that works on foreign cars, including MINI. He has scanners. Hopefully tell me what is needed, and easy to fix.
Will advise.
Still, would be nice to learn now.
Will keep advised.

Digital LED displays on these and other BMW built cars have a notorious history of going out, in part or totally out. Radio display is another common one. There are threads here and elsewhere about replacing the speedo dial and other dash components. Hopefully your bud at the Euro shop will find a simpler solution.
