I tried to do a search, but was unable to find a definitive answer. I took things apart to inspect the fuel rail, and while I had the horns open I noticed a few things:
1. my driver side (the smaller one) rubber coupler is really cracked, so I ordered a new set of the silicone kind to replace with
2. the insides of the horns and intercooler openings were absolutely filthy with oil, both wet & dried up from before
3. the inside of the rubber couplers was really wet, with puddling oil that would run out if I turned them sideways
Is this all "normal" or does it seem excessive? I know some amount is totally normal from the PCV and blow by, just want to make sure I'm not seeing early signs of something worse?
Personally I don't think that's "too" excessive of an amount, esp since those boots have probably never been off the car and it most likely isn't run very hard (if you haven't noticed the boost leak), plus a cracked boot will allow the oil to puddle more instead of traveling farther into the intake due too loss of boost and flow of that air.
Check you plugs, if they aren't excessively oiled, I wouldn't be too concerned.
Thanks, I actually have noticed yo yo behavior and uneven acceleration, and trouble starting and dying right away, which I had though may have been a fueling issue. I just replaced the fuel filter and pump. I don't drive the car much (not my main car) but do drive it relatively hard when I do. In fact in process of converting it to a spare track car at the moment so going through and trouble shooting issues with it one by one 😀
Other issue is burning smell after hard acceleration. Going to check the crank pulley next time i have it in the air.
