R50/53 R53 Mini S Running Hot?
R53 Mini S Running Hot?
Hey guys, I've been working on my project R53 Mini S (car has 172k miles, current engine has 70k miles), and as the title says, I'm worried that my engine is running a little hot.
While running it at idle in my driveway, it seems like the coolant temperature is getting hotter than it should. It gets hot enough at idle for the high speed fan to kick in (low speed is out - need to fix that still). My OBDII reader said the coolant got to 240F after running it for only about 15 minutes on a 70 degree day. I've looked around and see some people running around 180-190F and some people with a range similar to mine. Not sure what's normal on these as it's my first Mini. I flushed and refilled the coolant system before running it, oil looks normal, radiator is brand new (stock), no coolant leaks anywhere. What's a normal temperature range on these? Am I worrying over nothing?
In case it's important to engine temperature getting high, the car has these modifications: 17% SC reduction pulley, AC delete, stainless headers and catless exhaust. I had to replace the engine when I bought it due to the previous owner running it way too hot for way too long, and would hate to overheat again once it's on the road.

It is ggoing to get hot if your low speed fan is not working. Hi speed will kick in to try an cool down. If it stay cool while A/C is on an your car is not running hot. Then your low speed fan resistor need to be replaced.
Thanks for the reply, I'll fix the low speed fan issue this week and report back
Went ahead and ordered one since I expected it to be going out soon and it's an easy fix. Thanks!
