Had this come on the other day and instead of buying a non oem gas cap that chances are will still not work. You don't have to replace the whole gas cap. You can purchase just the seal because that's what goes bad. You should also use a thin wire brush and clean the groove on the filler neck where the gas cap seals on and on the gas cap where the seal sits. Also give the gas cap a good through cleaning too..
I posted a Pic of what my seal looked like off of my 2004 mcs with 100k. It looked perfect on the outer side but the underside of it , as you can see..
