My 04 R53 headlights were hazed over so I paid a shop $50 to "polish" the lenses "clear" = total fail.
A year later I wet sanded progressively with 220, 600, 1200 then polished with a soft brown (?) Scotch Brite pad.
Wiped clean and dried. I then vigorously buffed/applied
in an vertical pattern only. Buffed off the
residue and buffed with a clean cloth (T-shirt). Applied a nice coat of ICE car wax polish. Lenses looked totally new.
I haven't been able to find ICE polish since then but I polish my lenses with GM compound every 3 months. Just because.
I love the Mini Rally/Spot lamps. I bought a set a year ago from h.bowers off ebay for around $65 USD (lights only).
I think I bought the R53 light brackets from Out Motoring or ECSTuning for about the same amount ($65 +/-).
I wired the lights myself.
Bought a used R53 dash toggle switch panel (ebay $25), cannibalized one of the OEM toggle switches, drilled out the inside/back of the switch slightly larger,
Removed and disassembled my toggle panel out of my Mini and incorporated (from the inside) a micro switch into the vacant (rear fog switch) by drilling out a hole in that spot. With the micro switch in place, toggle sticking out of that hole;
I snapped in the aforementioned modified switch over the micro toggle and onto it's switch "cradle" on the panel. Wired up, Put it back together and installed. I now have a full row of 6 OEM working toggles.
Looks totally factory.
Here's a link to the Valeo/Cibie catalog. The 6" 145mm Mini Oscar is shown as 'soon available', although a couple of UK eBay vendors already list them. I expect ECS will have them in due course.

Just repainted my Black headlight trim and refinished the lenses while the trim was drying. Used $13 3M Headlight Restore kit from O'reillys. Worked very well and it was ONLY $13. Don't have any pre pics I can find but they were yellow. Even if it lasts a year...was only $13 and took about 1hr total for both.
