06 MCS 129k with os giken clutch as per PO. Not sure which version of clutch kit.
I had an issue where the clutch went to the floor at an intersection and on startup there was some grinding noise when the clutch pedal was pressed and which slowly went away once depressed. Needless to say I got the car towed to my place.
I had previously replaced the slave and bled it. Today I checked the slave under the car and compared its position to when I had replaced it. I can clearly see it is extended more than what is was when I replaced it a few months back.
So I think the pressure plate or throw out bearing is shot? I am going to follow the mod mini video to get the transmission out and just was looking for a heads up on what might be wrong.
Thanks! Pic from Jan with older slave From today with clutch lever nearly parallel with the trans mount surface.
The throw-out bearing grenaded and left skid marks on the pressure plate. Pretty amazing to see since the bearing gave up only at idle.
I was sad to see that the clutch was LUK and not OS giken like the PO mentioned.
I have a few questions
1. A bit dumb but how do I know if I have a DMF or SMF? Does LUK go on either?
2. I have not taken the clutch apart but should I replace the clutch plate+disc anyways?
I am reading other posts about clutch choices and valeo seems to be the way. This is my 1st manual car (only intake and exhaust mods) and a daily but I still would like a heavier pedal feel but without the aggressiveness of a high-performance clutch. I would love to get some advice on it.
I wish I could see the pics in your 2nd post, I could tell you if it was dual mass or not...
That being said, replace it all.
Unless of course you enjoy removing the transmission regularly.
Dual mass flywheel should appear to be made of more than one piece (excluding ring gear) A regular flywheel will be one hunk of metal machined again excluding ring gear.
