I know that once upon a time, when MINIs were first being rolled out here in the U.S., that "ride" was set up in a mall as an unconventional means of advertising. There's a pic of it in Graham Robson's book. That's the only place I had ever seen it.

I love the MINI commercial where the guys in a MINI are parking at an amusement park and a pushy lady and her whiny kid come up and tell them to hurry up and get out so they can have their turn on the ride. Remember that one?

Apparently whoever came up with the concept for both had driven a MINI.

This is the first time I have seen it.

I guess they don't do this in California unless they change it to say:

Rides
$16,999 Plus...
$5,000 Market Adjustment
$1,000 Destination Charge
$1,500 Unwanted Accessories
$2,500 Tax & License
------------------------------
Ride Total: $25,499

Now get in line and wait.

Kid: "But Mommy, I wanted a ride in it!"
Mom: "I know - I did, too."

My favorite of all the MINI commercials! Perfectly catches the "appeals to all ages and sexes" character of the MINI!

Unless you wait in line at Long Beach Mini for MSRP. About 8-10 months for a Cooper S right now...

Yes, it's one of the original marketing campaigns.

Just to make sure that nobody hauled $17,000 worth of quarters to the thing and tried to use it, there was a little sign on the coin box that read "Out of Order!"

Actually, I did see this in a shopping mall in Pleasanton CA, almost 3 years ago. (The nearest dealer, has always sold at list price... with a long waiting list.)

I remember a young boy standing there, looking up with his eyes WIDE. I got my MINI several months later. He's probably still a few years away.
