R50/53 Small knock when I press on the gas or take my foot off gas.
Replaced Passenger side mounts
Got the passenger side mounts replaced today. The upper engine mount was toast even though it looked ok before disassembly. Unfortunately the thunk when pressing on the gas is still there. I am thinking that it might be the transmission mount on the drivers side. That part seems to be much more expensive. How can I confirm if that is the problem and if it is is ther a cheaper option to get past this thunk?
I thought of a another thing...bad duel mass flywheel. Can anyone comment on that?
op you are on the right track. And no doubt your car will need these wear items replaced. It will just keep getting better and better as you do this needed maintenance...
you could always sell it now and get a new car. But what fun is that?

I enjoy working on the mini (actaully any car) and with Covid, I have enough time flexibility that I can do without it for a few days at a time if needed. As you said, these are wear parts so need to be done anyway (way past due). This thunk (not very loud) every time the engine engages or disengages either by pressing and releasing gas or pressing and releasing clutch.
If I had to guess, the sound seems to be coming up by my feet, hence the thought that it might be the transmission mount.

Here in photo you can see I added a Powerflex yellow insert to mine. Yellow marks the spot.....
However, I would think that if you are hearing it "near your pedals", it would be the lower mount which is attached to the oil pan....easily visible when doing oil change....When I replaced the one in my 03' I filled the "voids" with MINI windshield urethane...(poor mans version of an aftermarket stiff one w/o the drawbacks of NVH.)
Maybe with hood up, parked/ Neutral / have someone blip the gas pedal / depress clutch and see what you can find....
