Hey sorry I didn't see this. I rebuilt an R53 a few years back and had the same issue. Do you have automatic climate control? I did and I'm afraid that the issue in my car was that the actuators were broken and not the actual control unit. So when I went to turn the heat on I would hear clicks and whatnot, but the levers would never actually allow the radiator to pump the warm air into the car. The only solution was to get new actuator arms and pull the dash apart completely....and I mean completely. I did fix it and was proud of it, but it was a nightmare at the time.
I'm specifically talking about the actuators and the associated arms in this drawing: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=64_1148

I was also just thinking, there is a procedure you can do to run a system test on the automatic climate control to check and see if the actuator arms actually are the problem. I found it on the forum many years ago so I know it's here somewhere.
