Season's First Below Freezing "DING!"

Houston reached the Artic temperature of 32 degrees this morning, causing my MINI to make that not-often heard "DING"... translation: you butt cheeks are about to stick to the leatherette. Methinks the river might freeze over and in that case I'll take the van out and do a little ice fishing, eskimo style. My mind cannot comprehend any place on earth being this cold or- gasp!- COLDER, and God help those of you who live in humping CANADA (aka lot15- YOU ARE NOT HUMAN, MAN!)

Someone pass the bourbon and body heat.

jsun Dec 23, 2004 06:44 AM

Hummmm. I'm not in Canada, but I only hear the ding about twice a year as well. Once on the way down past 37, and again about 4 months later on the way back up to 38. Body heat and bourbon...I knew there was a reason to go down south.

I thought I told you not to tell anyone about that, jsun. You assured me that your fee included a confidentiality clause. That's the last time I trust anyone with surgically attached fangs.

Greatbear Dec 23, 2004 08:12 AM

Alas, my MINI does not 'ding' for the freeze warning nor for low fuel. It's up to me to know when I am about to be stranded or slide off the road.

It was only -32F this morning, and the gentle breeze only made it feel like -41F,and the sun is shining:wink::razz::thumbsup:

Oh my god, I hope you stocked up on bourbon this season. What would possess a person to think that kind of weather is SURVIVABLE?!

lotsie Dec 23, 2004 02:12 PM

I don't like bourbon, but I do have some rum on hand. And I have more room in the fridge as I can just keep beer next to the back door and it keeps it cool.
I know I should fix the weather stripping, but now it is to frosty outside to do that:roll:
One of the ways to SURVIVE here is to watch the weather channel and look for places that are colder, then you know it could be worse:razz:

spoonleg Dec 23, 2004 02:51 PM

The only place I think the weather might be worse is HELL. Pass the rum, I'm cold just thinking about it.

gokartride Dec 23, 2004 07:30 PM

I find the "ding" immensely amusing. (...which probably says alot.:sly:)

The high temp in D/FW today was officially 32, but I went and hand-washed my MINI anyway (...and it looks humpin' awesome, btw:thumbsup: ). Once your hands go numb its really no problem. I kinda warmed up somehow after awhile, but was careful not to fall asleep just in case.

lotsie Dec 23, 2004 07:45 PM

The problem with hand washing in the temps around here is getting the ice out of the bucket to rub on the car:roll::sly::razz:

lotsie Dec 23, 2004 08:43 PM

Nothing like having a rum or two,or bourbons, then going out and watching the lights dance in the skyhttps://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/...108AbNmrNy0at5

I hear you. It snowed today for the first time here in 17 years. I have only heard the ding once b/c I usually have the radio on.

spoonleg Dec 26, 2004 09:59 AM

It's official: HELL FROZE OVER THIS CHRISTMAS EVE!! (by "hell" I mean Houston and by "froze over" I mean got really, really cold and by 'Christmas Eve" I mean December 24th)

And my MINI had her first snow experience

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...7mini_snow.jpg

My butt cheeks were quite unhappy.

hafid Dec 26, 2004 10:12 AM

that's why God invented bum warmers!

spoonleg Dec 26, 2004 02:27 PM

Haf, if I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times... your hands are NOT bum warmers so cut it out.

Now spoon, that little bit of white stuff was not so bad was it:wink:
Next we get you spending the night in a igloo, just remember the yellow snow really stands out,so you have to GO outside:lol::eek2::eek2::thumbsup:

TruMini Dec 27, 2004 03:04 PM

Had to do the midnight run to CircleK on Christmas Eve (Santa forgot batteries :eek2: ). Coming home I hear this ding, ding, ding and the outside temp starts flashing. I almost had a heart attack. It's Phoenix, for crying out loud!!

Churchill? Yellowknife? Resolute Bay? Jimbo

PS I have faced -62F still temps in Wyoming USA before, not very nice

satay-ayam Dec 27, 2004 04:52 PM

I think lot15, and everyone else that lives in Manitoba must be insane. I live on the southern edge of Minnesota, which has got to be ~300 miles south of the Canadian border, and I think it's so ridiculously cold here I can't stand it! I don't ever want to go anywhere north of the Twin Cities again

lotsie Dec 27, 2004 05:07 PM

Well yeah I,m nuts, has nothing to do with the weather:wink::lol::lol::lol::lol::wink::wink::razz ::razz::razz:
