Missing Air Intake Hose - where too? Why?

I was hoping someone could tell me about this missing air intake hose. It came to me this way.
You can see the one highlighted by the yellow arrow in the stock picture and you can see in my engine bay that it is missing (also yellow arrow / circles).

I see it looks to connect to an opening below the air box, I just wanted to what it was used to cool?
Does the addition of the aftermarket intake impact the need for it?
Will I benefit from adding it?
Where can I get one? Will be easier to search once I know what it is.

Thank you!

You're missing the Intake Duct - part 12 in the following diagram:

Check RealOEM for part number (depends on transmission type):

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_0979

It directs air into the bottom of the airbox:

That would be bringing cold fresh air into your air intake. Currently you are sucking hot air in from the engine compartment w/ a little fresh air coming in from the window cowl area.

You have an aftermarket air intake, but it's lacking the cover that goes under the cross brace. You could easily make one out of aluminum sheet, and the mounting holes are clear to see in the photo. One in place the intake would pull cool air from the cowl area as designed for that application.

BRGPA,
I will do some investigating on the brand and see if I can order one or make one. Thanks for the idea and info.

Looks like a DDM intake. You can see punched letters on the firewall side in the plate.
