can an R53 be converted to not have a super charger
can an R53 be converted to not have a super charger
Wondering if I can convert my R53 to not have a supercharger when it wears out, to just have a R50 type intake ? ? ?
Or can I replace the supercharger with a Turbocharger ? ? ?
General questions I had thought of for the future down the road when that time comes . . . . . . .
I thought maybe NAM members might have an answer to these questions - Thanks

I would think by the time you converted, it would be far cheaper to rebuild the current supercharger/blower.
I doubt you would like driving it after the conversion. The stock pistons are usually lower compression than naturally aspirated. Then there would be the issue of the computer controlled fueling.

Ditto, it will take some tuning magic, not just simply using NA mapping copied to your cars ECU, or an R50 ECU with all the ness. changes to work with your car.
Plus the mentioned issue of far less compression. Unless you have some real hookups in the Mini world, I'm petty sure @dedave is correct, cheaper to simply repair the S specific issues when they pop up.

We might have rebuilt superchargers services in the future so that will help out. I have seen the turbo and Supercharger dual system MINI and just turbo R50s, they have a bunch of work put into them and $$$. I guess it how much you want to spend.

With enough time and money it could be done, but the money that you would pay to detune the car (electric water pump, pully routing, etc) would IMO be put to better used just replacing the SC if you get to that point.
The conversion would cost roughly the value of the car.

I just was looking at a complete turbo swap kit for the R53 , it was on eBay. Seller even had all the oil lines ,piping and everything literally to go from SC to turbo..I could see a turbo being a cheaper alternative to monster boost levels .
Soccerbummer1104 ,another member where I was reading in old posts, I think that guy did a turbo in his R53.. I could be wrong though.
Btw, the entire kit the guy was asking 1200$ obo and it's gone so I'm sure it's sold now as that was last month.
