Check the shipping site. They seem to have a record of which VIN#s they're taking on board before the MINIs even get there on the train. There is at least one of the 02/14s on the CARMEN, but they were waitlisted at last check.

Well it looks like at least 9 of us are on the CARMEN! There are currently over 600 MINIs scheduled to be on the CARMENT, so I suspect there may be a few more of us on there. So those of you that haven't checked the shipping site recently, do so! You could be partying with us!! The CARMEN should leave her German port sometime tomorrow and reach Southhampton on Saturday. After which maybe we'll have lat/long information.

I use the following information (plus a slide rule and an atlas) to approximate ship position (I can't seem to get the MapTech site to work, so I have to plot position manually).

With a little bit of information, you can actually find where the boat that your MINI is on. You are going to need your VIN number. If you haven't yet received your VIN, then this will not work because your MINI probably hasn't completed the production process. If you do have your VIN, and your know that your MINI is on the boat, here is what you do:

* First, go to the tracking site at http://213.31.205.37/GLWebApps.AppTracking. Here you will be able to get the actual name of your boat (you are going to need this for the next step).
* Then, go to the Coast Guard site to get the call sign of your boat. Enter the name of your boat in the field labeled Vessel Name. You don't need any other information.
* After that, go to the accuweather site. Enter the call sign in the 'Buoy/Ship Observations' field and then click decode. This will give you the lat/long of the ship (each ship is basically a mobile weather station, that's how the weather site can find 'em).
* Finally, go to the maptech site. In the box at the bottom labeled 'Find Maps or Charts by Lat/Lon (Decimal Degree)', enter your lat/lon from the accuweather site. VERY IMPORTANT...if your latitude is XX.X S, you must use a minus ( - ) sign before the number, and if your longitude is XX.X W you have to use the minus ( - ) sign as well. If you do not, you will find that your MINI is coming to you via the Suez Canal, instead of being off of the coast of Spain.

Looks like we're on the same boat, heading for the same dealership. It would be cool if we could pick up together (although we're heading different directions on 42).

It would also be interesting to see if our MINIs even arrive together as opposed to a week apart due to relative position in the cargo hold (last in-first out?)

wwwebb, that eighteen minutes must mean our MINIs are pretty close together, chumming up on the docks... I can just picture it... coutnless MINIs just sitting there on some dock in southampton watching the seagulls passing by, ha. I mean, I guess they're enclosed in some warehouse of sorts, but it's funny to think about.


Also, I bet I'll catch up to the eighteen minutes, since mine's going to VA, and yours to OH, although who knows.

Interesting point brought up by Bill... Is last in the boat mean first out?! If there's 600 (i think that's what i read) MINIs on one ship, I'm guessing they don't all make it to the NJ checkpoint at the same time. And from what the trends suggest, it's about a week that it sits at the inspection center?

I was #150 on 2-4-03 and have only moved to #152 on 2-13-03. This info. is all via 1-800-ask-mini. I'm not one of these people who are in a huge hurry to get my MINI (don't get me wrong I'm as excited as the next person but you just can't rush something that needs to go thru a process). However, this does seem like a long wait between #150 and #152. Anybody else experience similar timing?

With the majority of the 2/14 motorers booked or assumed completed, looks like its our week next week MINIDean !!! Still sitting at 150 for me though since 2/6 so I'm hoping to have some updates tomorrow, otherwise next week will surely go fast. I'm just hoping to make quick progress and catch either the 19th or 22nd sailing dates. Talked to the advisor at Hassel in L.I. and he said they get notice from BMW once the ship is 3 days from hitting our shore, from there it can take anywhere from 6 to 14 days depending on how busy and full the docks are...
