Squeaky door checkers?

Both of my doors squeak and pop on my ‘05 S. I’ve tried greasing the door checkers but they still creak and pop. What’s the fix for this?

Have you lubed their attachment points?

Just the actual slide, are you talking where it bolts to the door frame?

alconk 06-06-2019 10:01 AM

The popping is coming from the checker where it enters the door.. like I said I lived it but didn’t make any difference. I don’t know if I need to take to door card off or what?

ItsmeWayne 06-06-2019 10:07 AM

Have you lubed the hinges? and not with WD-40, which sucks as a lube. Make sure to get the bottom of each hinge, as the bottom one often gives a pop, when it is dry and rusted inside.
You do not need to take the card off!

Door brakes maybe marking noise?

They're relatively inexpensive to replace both sides and pretty easy to replace as well.

Get some spray lithium grease and spray inside the door stop and hinges. Worked great for me. Stopped the squeaks and creaks.

Mine squeaked as well. I spraye the grease and initially it didn’t work but after a day or two the grease worked its way in and no more noise.

Yeah I sprayed it today and still pops. I’ll guve it s day or two. I didn’t even think about keeping the windows up when spraying.

Try tightening them. On some cars, the bolts that hold them to the door will loosen over time and create the popping sound you describe.

I take it you still have to pull off the door card? Didn’t see the bolts so must b inside the door?

Maybe. I was thinking of some older Nissan and Suzuki products I have dealt with where this was an issue. I am not yet familiar enough with the MINI to have dealt with this.

I just went ahead and ordered new ones. If I’m going to get in the door I don’t want to band aid the problem. Thanks I appreciate your help.

Both doors on my 67k mlles 2006 R53 creak and groan when opening and closing. Went to the dealer and grabbed a new door brake (they only had 1 in stock). Replaced the drivers side over the weekend and instantly resolved the issue. It’s a relatively easy DIY if you’ve removed door panels before. Took about 15 minutes start to finish.

Ordered a 2nd door brake and will install this week on the passenger side to complete the job.

Nice! I’m thinking about putting in some dynamat on the door skin to to the “tinny” sound away when they shut.

Recently did that as well for the front and rear speakers, plus inside the doors. I’m not a fan of the gen 1 MINI radios (even the H/K in my car) but this did help a lot with improving speaker clarity. Definitely worth doing while you already have the door cards off.

I hear the arm rest is tricky to get off for the ‘05 and up?

JackMac 06-10-2019 07:36 AM

I have a plastic interior tool (like a butter knife with rounded/tapered ends). Usually pops right off, but yeah the first time can be tricky. Check YouTube for “how to” videos.

I don’t understand why y’all aren’t having success with the spray lube. Mine sounded like an old haunted house. Some spray grease and a year later they are still silent.

I have sprayed but still creak. Did you spray from the inside out or vice wersa?
