R53 rough idle after new plugs, ignition, intercooler and pulley. Please help

Just installed new plugs, pulley intercooler and msd ignition. Car revs high and then struggles to idle and fluctuates a bunch. Have an iat sensor 2 code and throttle body code. Also has new throttle body and bypass valve. Any help would be appreciated as it is my daily. Will add video later.

Your best bet is to search NAM (not google, but then google if NAM fails you) for the specific codes you pulled. Most valuable are threads talking about your specific codes together, not mixed in with a completely different set. The same code can be thrown for several different reasons, and it helps to know what other codes they’re appearing with.

From what you wrote, my first guess is ... new intercooler is not sealed at the connectors and you have pressure leaks, but... you also mention you added a new throttle body? Was that before (the car ran fine) the newest upgrades? Did you replace ALL the seals and gaskets when you when you installed the components?

As much as I like MSD, I have heard of several problems with their coil pack on MINIs, if you have the old one I would put it on and see if that makes a difference.

OK, if you replaced the pulley (was it the SC or Crank pulley) I ask because it looks like you may have gone for a performance tweak ... if so don't forget the JCW fuel injectors 380cc or the larger 440cc and if you go that route then the JCW plugs like the NGK BKR7EQUP ...then get your local Indy shop to load the JCW ECM code... of course your gas mileage will suffer, but that funny grin on your face will be there longer when driving.

Best of Luck.

First check should be that the i/c is sealed correctly, and also check the condition of your rubber boots which may be cracked or dry rot.

JABowders covered all the pertinent issues very well and I'd go step-by-step with what he listed.

Sounds like the DDM works silicone IC boots are not sealed off, a common issue with non stock IC boots.
