Why are my stripes different?

Still learning all things MINI. Noticing that there are very few pics of cars with this stripe design. It appears that they were an option; I found them in the OEM parts catalog. Anything significant, or just an unpopular option?

In the R56 world, those were called the Sport Stripes, to differentiate them from the regular angled stripes. I bough my R53 used so I don’t know how they were ordered for that gen car. Google “mini sport stripes” and you’ll see plenty of examples. They’re definitely less popular than the angled stripes, but I think that’s to your credit. You’ll have much less of a chance running into another of your exact car.

I definitely like that they're less common, and I like that they are similar to the Lemans stripes, aka Shelby stripes in the Mustang world. I was mainly curious whether it was as just a stand alone option, or part of a package, or in some other way "special."

I don't have any stripes, but my son's R55 has those style. I like them better than the angled ones, but prefer none best.

I have them, the "viper" or sport stripes. Back in the day the V shaped traditional was more popular.

I don’t believe they were part of a package, or signify any other differences. Just a check mark on the order form. But a good, unconventional choice.

I saw the thread title and figured it was a children's book about Zebras.

Hey, they look great on your car, enjoy!

I have only seen these stripes on a facelift Gen I MINI as my car has.......I have not seen the ones that the OP has on his '06 car.....I wonder if they were added at a later date....would be interesting to get a build sheet for the car and see what it says for stripes

For the owners of the cars that have the "non-angled" stripes....do they go down the rear of the car as well?

I'm not a fan of the white angled stripes on my car, but it's what it came with from the factory.....the wife wants to change the color of ours from white to purple..... we'll see

Yes they do usually go on the Boot as well. Some stripes are dealer installed and my local dealer has their sign place that does it do some custom type stuff as well. Like taking the stripes down across the bumpers and various side stripes etc...

not 'unusual' ..... factory 'sport stipe'

yes, the factory kit includes the boot

seemed to be very popular on R58/59 ... you see it there a lot! (subsequently removed ours as the silver color does not hold up well)

As noted earlier by ECS,
this style was known as "viper stripes"...

They are on the hatch, and it appears from parts diagrams that you could order them on the roof as well, at least for non sunroof cars.

The pic above with the stripes running through the hood scoop appears to be of an aftermarket design, although I like it and may recreate on mine.

For right now I'm sticking with what I have, which includes the addition of red accent stripes to make the black stripes pop more on the blue.

Not a great pic but yes mine are on the boot too. I dig the red outlining the black.

In my opinion, I like the stripes continuing thru the hood scoop inlet, but that's just me

I also really like red pinstripe that you did to your car, makes the original black stripes pop out more

MINIs had a unique build option, it gave buyers the options over like 15 million configurations, many of those where Stripes, mirror caps, side scuttles, belt line trim, etc.

Now with the newer models the options are streamlined into a more conventional limit of options.

Motor On!

I envy you!

And also thank you for being around and sharing all your knowledge.

Sadly I got a late start with all this, but have accumulated a few cool pieces of ephemera.

Only recently did I discover that there was a brochure for the GP --- but apparently it's quite rare and there's some pretty fierce bidding on ebay at the moment which has already passed my $ comfort level since I'm not a GP owner but just interested of R53 in general...

...looked it up hoping for a pdf but no dice:

I did get the owners handbook from you guys though:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...6/01490012348/

It's pretty neat.

Yep,
Glad to help and be one of the few that remembers when you were buying a MINI you were on a wait list.

I have soo much dealer swag and promo stuff from around 2004+. I would have to check in my stash but I have some GP stuff. Some of the items I only have 1 of as they were promos. Maybe one day we will post a picture on social of it on the ECS Tuning IG /FB.

Thats pretty cool and glad you got it. BTW I was personally with MINIUSA when they Delivered the GP's (about 6-7 if I remember) to East Coast owners in Jersey City, NJ on MTTS 2006.
So I remember all those good old days.

When you support ECS Tuning you are supporting some of the old school passionate MINI owners.

How to install.

I received a set of stripes from ECS but no instructions. I am not sure if these are the sport or V shaped ones as there are zero instructions. Before attempting to do these, does anyone have any guide of how these go? I have an R52 and have pieces A, B, C, D and pieces G, H, I.

What is is strange is there are three cutouts for the emblem. These are the sport stripes in black. Thanks.

Thank you.

Yep they dont come with them. I just matched up the set up on mine and then applied them. I laid them out first with painters tape. In some kits, they give you more as its used for multiple modes. The difference is the hood scoop vs no hood scoop. Give me the part # of the kit and I will dig up the old install PDF.

Order number

i ordered item 78793. I am wondering if that one will work on the V shape configuration. That would be perfect. If not, I see them sold individually. Will those work for the V config?

thanks.

Ok,
Those are the black stripes that go on the hood and trunk multiple set.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...47#51140411941

They are the Viper style and dont go in a V but dual lines front to back only. You have a Cooper and not an S correct?

Here is what they look like:

I have an S. Sorry I didn’t mention it.

So the other stripes in your website, sold individually are the ones I need for V shape config?

thanks.
