FW: Guess who's here?

My wife and I were driving around yesterday (in my Dodge Caravan). I told her Tillie would be arriving in Cleveland (Classic MINI) any day now. She said, "Why don't you email Julie and ask her to send you pictures when the car arrives?" I said, "Oh, that's silly - I've been bugging Julie so much. I can just wait."

So I check my email this afternoon, and there in my inbox is a message from Julie Saxa with the subject "Guess who's here?" I open the message and the first thing I see is: "There are 4 attachments"!

I didn't even ask her to take them! God, what an angel! If you're wondering if you should order a car from her, wow - I couldn't recommend her more!

Pictures! I finally got pictures to post! Whoo-hoo! Grab a pint of Bass and drink at toast to Tillie!

Cheers!

When do you pick her up?
 A week from Friday!!! This waiting is going to kill me! But it was the only time my wife and I could both get off from work!

But she's so beautiful - I have a new screen saver!

And I just emailed these photos to my friends and family in... Columbus... St. Louis... Emporia, KS... and Colorado Springs. Just so they can be on the lookout. We're going to have so much fun driving her back across the country.

Thanks for all your good wishes - Cheers!

I was going to recommend Julie as a "NAM Person of the Year" but that whole threads just taken a very bizarre twist.         :eek2:

(seriously, mega-kudos to a fine MA...surely one of MINI-dom's best)

Congrats, Lombard! Not much longer now! Julie is absolutely great, she whetted my appetite with lots of pictures when my MCS first arrived at Classic, too. You can see them all in the dealer shots gallery on my website, hyperbluemini.com, if you're interested. She even had someone take pics of them loading the truck! Julie truly is the best of the best.

Hey - thanks for the invite. If I had my way, it would take us about a month to get back to Sacramento. But the wife is worried about leaving our daughter home alone for a whole week.

Tell Jett his mini-chopper is "sick!"

Yeah, it's a cupholder. I've seen 'em on the 05s at my dealer. I guess they're standard now? I didn't order it (unless it's a secret part of the Premium Pack or something).

But it isn't in the glovebox. It attaches to the upright part of the center console, on the passenger side, and it swings out. It's kind of like some of the iPod and cell phone holders I've seen. I'm not sure I'm going to leave it on. I think it's just held on by the screw on the side of the upright, so it ought to be easy to remove. It's kind of big and ugly, right there on the side of what I think is a really cool center console. BMW's tacit admission that the original cupholders are a mistake?

If I could take a picture of it, I would - but the car's in Cleveland and I'm in Sacramento!

 Grrrrr!!!!

Donna - it's so sweet of you to reply. I can't tell you how many times in the last few days I've thought of your poor MINI getting keyed and felt so sad. Your enthusiastic reply really means a lot.

When the thieves got my stereo (on their second try - the bastards!), I went out and bought myself a better stereo to replace it. Turned it around - made it a positive experience. "Hey - somebody just gave me an opportunity to upgrade the stereo in my car!"

I can't quite figure out how to do that in your case, though. Buying a new MINI is out, obviously. Some sort of custom paint job? Stripes? Flames? Something a little scarier, like a skull and crossbones? Or something for your MINI's inside? Or maybe just treating your baby to a detail job - sort of a "day at the spa" for your MINI!

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread - your wonderful comments make Tillie and me feel so welcome! (Even if we are 2500 miles apart! )

(And yeah, BRG/White is a GREAT look!)

All of the above?

Hey, Stanford. You ever hook up with NorCal MINIs or GoldCountryMINIs? Maybe our paths will cross one of these days!

Yeah - Julie is amazing! Did you ever meet her?

LombardStreet (class of '74)

mlebeau Nov 22, 2004 10:55 PM

Lombard,

Nope, still haven't had the opportunity to go to any NorCal MINIs or Gold Country MINI events... yet! The timing has just been inconvenient so far. I also need to get my butt out to an autocross! But it seems like no one's hosting one in the area right now.

And nope, never had the pleasure of meeting Julie in person, since my car was shipped out. The experience was nonetheless incredibly great!

Good luck enduring the last bit of waiting! It can be the hardest, but your new baby is just around the corner!

Fly to Cleveland & pick her up on Friday, Dec. 3rd. Then one day each to Columbus, St. Louis, Emporia (KS), Colorado Springs. One extra rest day in Colo Spgs to rest our behinds and visit my aunt, two days to Sacto. Expect to arrive Friday, Dec. 10th.

That's the plan, anyway. My wife and I don't have to be back at work until the following Monday...

mlebeau Nov 22, 2004 11:31 PM

Oh you'll be fine, that's a nice leisurely pace. :) I did the drive from Chicago to the Bay Area a few years ago in less than 48 hours, and that's with two full nights of sleep involved. ;)

Yeah, I used to do that sort of thing back when I was your age. Ah, the good old days!

Now if the weather will just cooperate! :sly:

Great car; great colour (I also have a BRG). I received the same great treatment from Julie when I bought mine. She sent emails including pictures.

Say hi to her when you pick up Tillie from all her fans in California who were lucky enough to have her as our MA.

She’s the best! I think she should be NAM person of the year.
