Hooking up OEM Rally Light Kit

I was finally able to get a pretty good used R53 OEM Rally Light Harness from a fine member here on NAM. It's cut in a few spots but I think I can make it work.

One thing I can't figure out is where the installation instructions show the two leads that go to the lights each have 2 wires, I seem to have 2 wires in one side and 3 wires in the other side. Not sure where this extra wire should go. I think it's red.

Any help would be appreciated. Hoping to install over Xmas break.

These should be the installation instructions: http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/Dr...Lights_902.pdf

There’s also a factory extension harness so you can mount the switch by handbrake instead of cutting a hole in the knee bolster for $2.50: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...s/61120412968/

Wow! That has to be the best deal ever on a Mini part! I would have thought it would be at least $20.

I am still looking for this retrofit rally light harness (not the extension described above). Anyone?

Yes, the installation instructions show 2 wires each on the leads that go to the lights, but for some reason it appears there's one extra red wire on one side that I don't know what to do with.

I ordered that $2.50 extension wire too.

I just bought a new set of rally lights and really wanted to get the switch extension cable but it looks like everyone is sold out and just shows on backorder. I wonder if I can just cut the harness that comes with the kit and extend it myself with butt connectors.

Yes you can do that. Just seal up the splice and use some heat shrink to seal it.

I’m trying to remove mine without cutting any wires, a bit tricky now at the firewall. I want to sell mine with the lower dash trim as an exchange item... wish I had the tool to de-pin that connector. Any tips?
