Remote Buttons Fix

So I bought my son an 04 R50. Both remotes/keys that came with the car had destroyed, missing buttons (The outer button, not the little ones attached to the circuit board). So I bought the replacement shells on ebay hoping to be able to use them. Well, the quality is not there and it will require drilling of new remote shell to install pin which I can do, but decided to go a different route for the time being. Here is what I did.......I cut a small piece of handy wrap and put it in the button hole. I spread it flat with a toothpick and fished it between the plastic of the shell and the circuit board. (This was to protect the board and the button for the next step.) I then filled the hole with black shoe goo from Amazon

I smoothed it out, wiped off the extra I got around the perimeter and left it to dry.

Well, it looks just fine and I just tried the remote and it works great. I will see how long this lasts, but it is a simple quick, cheap DIY fix. I am sorry I can not post a pic. I would be happy to text you one if you PM me. I hope this helps someone. The one remote I have has a missing button in the circuit board. The remotes I bought actually came with 2 of these (LOOSE) in each remote. I do not have the proper soldering iron and solder for such small intricate work.....I might buy one or take it to someone with skills to do the tiny stuff.

I run MINI Key Hospital specifically for keys like yours! I'd love to see a couple of picture of the shells you bought and which seller you purchased them from- and a couple of pictures of the keys themselves. Send me an e-mail- "minikeyhospital@outlook.com". Most keys can be fixed for right around $50 or so. look forward to hearing from you!

Soldered new button on to other remote circuit board. Covered in handy-wrap and put it back together. Filled holes with shoe goo. Both remotes work just fine. The replacement buttons that came with the new shells were a little smaller than the oem's, but they worked just fine. Will see how long they last .....The may need to go to the Hospital soon enough if the home remedy does not hold.
