2006 R53 rear view mirror

Recently my mini suffered the leaky sunroof which has been fixed but in the process I thing the remote control board is fried cause I have seen water dripping from the mirror and the keyless entry no longer works. I have taken the mirror apart and it does look like corrosion on the contacts. I have tried to clean it but no go. I also changed the batteries in the keys but that wasn't the issue. My question is do I buy a new rear view mirror and try that first to get my keys working? or could it be something else? If I do get a mirror which one do I buy? I have been looking but I am not sure which model to buy. I have a manual dimming mirror with no home link (i think that is what it is called). I would love some feedback from the mini masters.

Replacement mirrors are pretty cheap and it's plug and play, so it's not a bad approach. Make sure it is from the same year. I snagged an automatic dimming one on eBay for a good price as a replacement for my manual one and have had no trouble with it (I'm a 2006 too).

Thanks for the reply
I've been looking for a while now and it looks like the 2007 and 08 mirror will fit too. I just want to make sure I get the right one with the correct frequency for my remotes . Do you recall what you searched for on eBay?

I would be concerned that different years might have different electronics, especially if from a Gen 2 car, but I have no experience with this. I just searched by car and model year. FWIW, I still have my old manual mirror that you can have for the cost of shipping, but I'm in San Diego, so it might be cheaper to find something more local. PM me if you're interested.

I had the same issue/questions and opted to go with a used rear view mirror. I lucked out on Ebay because I found a mirror that was very loose and not very useful as a mirror any more, but had great pictures of the inside confirming that it had the same receiver board that I needed. It was cheap, so I bought it. Should be here by the end of the week and I just have to swap the board into my mirror. One thing I noticed is that for manual dimming mirrors with no homelink, just look for 3 wires in the harness (purple, brown and orange). If it has the 3 wires, then it has the receiver board.
