What are these black plastic pieces?
In the back seat are four black plastic pieces that slip in and out with ease, what are they for and are they supposed to slip in and out easily?

They are covers for the ISOFIX child seat anchor points. Flip up the doors and attach a car seat with the provided tethers.
Hmm, I wonder if they are strong enough for a harness that can be used for auto-x or HPDE?

Strong enough to protect a baby from flying out of the car. Yes, most certainly they are anchored strong enough for a simple harness.

The Schroth harness does not attach to these but rather to the seat belt connections. One is via one of the center clasps and the other is via a special bracket that you bolt in with the belt connection.
