Joining the ranks!

Hello Everyone,

what a great week! On monday I decided to test drive a mini cooper S and loved the experience. I asked the salesman about ordering one and he told me it would likely come in february. Did not want to wait that long and asked him if there were any available now. As it turns out, someone failed to pick up their order that had just come in. The car was a little more loaded than I might have ordered, but I'm sure I won't regret it .

Anyhow, picked it up on friday and now I'm the proud owner of a 2005 Mini Cooper S Chili Red, White Roof with Premium package, cold weather package, navigation system, xenon lights and fog lamps. Pictures and a link to more below.

The car is fantastic, and seems quite a bit more peppy than the '04 I drove. I realize there are 5 extra HP, but what else is new in the 05's? Is there a definitive list somewhere?

Also what are the must have mods? I need to figure out the best way to connect my iPod, seems there are several options for that. Also just read a post about bluetooh phones, another thing to figure out.

Glad to be here!

I am not sure about a list. You may be finding the acceleration more peppy due to the revised transmission gearing. I believe 1-3 gears have a shorter ratio to help get off the line quicker. I'm sure the exact details are around here somewhere....or cruise on over to www.motoringfile.com and search their archives.

Looks great!

Car looks great! As for the list you wanted, here is a very, very extensive list from MINI at the Paris Auto Show, pretty much all the changes, big and small, for '05.

You mention the car feeling peppy - you are aware of recommended break-in procedure right? Shouldn't actually push it until 1250 miles, at least not much! The rule is under 4500rpm and 95mph, no more than about half-throttle until you hit 1250 miles... if you're willing to follow the guidelines, that is.

Hi mlebeau,

thanks for the link! Yes I am following break-in. But still, a 3rd gear acceleration from say 2K rpm to 4K rpm seemed noticeably better on the '05 compared to the '04. I can't wait to readline it

I wonder if that red dash would fit in my 04. Anyone know the part number?

Beautiful car! Welcome to NAM. I have had mine for a couple of months now and just got over the break-in. I had a mental problem at first , I wanted to keep the car too clean and thus would not drive it very much. Thank goodness my wife gave me some counseling and sent me on my way!

Happy Motoring!
