Schwaben BMW/MINI scan tool VS Launch CRP129

I was about to buy the Schwaben BMW/Mini scan tool from ECS Tuning (on sale now) for my 04 Cooper S JCW and ran across reviews of the Launch CRP129 which has built in software for many vehicles in addition to Minis. Has anyone compared the capability of the Launch CRP129 VS the Schwaben scanner? It would be nice to have one scanner that covers my Mini, Jaguar, Honda, Land Rover, Jeep(s) and others in one package, but my choice would be the Schwaben if the CRP129 has only limited Mini functionality.

Its programmed with the professional version for BMW/MINI/ Roll Royce, but has a normal basic OBD2 reader for all other cars.

I didn't hear any response about the capability of the Launch CRP129 so I went ahead and ordered the Schwaben BMW/Mini scan tool while it is on sale. I wonder if it will tell me why both of my windows stopped going down or dipping.

There's a way to "recalibrate" the windows that I had to do when they suddenly stopped going up/down when opening/closing the door.

1. Sit in the car, and put the key in position 1, so you have power to the windows.
2. Push and hold down the window switch, and keep it held down for 5-30 seconds after the window is all the way down. This resets the memory
3. Roll window back up, and release switch.

Not sure, but maybe that might help.

Thanks for the reply, That might help if the windows would go down, but I just get a double click from the door when I hold the switch down. Maybe try holding it longer? I did try the hold-the-switch-and-whack-the-door-card-above-the-speaker procedure, but it didn't work for me. One fellow said he removed the door card and whacked the door frame with a dead blow mallet and it jogged the motor into working. Guess I need to try that next.

It seems odd that both windows stopped working at the same time and the window fuses are OK, but both just do the double click thing with no glass movement. I'm not sure if it clicks when I pull the door handle; I should listen for that. I did try holding the unlock button on the fob and the sunroof opens but the windows do not. So far the doors seem to open and close OK even though the windows are not dipping, but it still concerns me.

One weird thing I noticed when working on my car recently is that every time I disconnect the battery and then reconnect it (there's a spark) the windows go down a little bit, maybe 1/4" - 1/2". You could try that just to see what happens, who knows. Note, I've only had my R53 for 1.5 weeks.

I had my R53 for a week before I even noticed that the windows dipped. Guess I could try disconnecting the battery and see what happens.

What about it you experienced guys; Is there any down side to disconnecting the battery? On my 06 Jaguar SV8 it is recommended you disconnect the battery cables and touch them together for 30 seconds to fix some of the weird problems they can develop. Any advantage to doing that on the Mini?

Each time you disconnect the battery the windows loss calibration. It is totally normal, like the circa 80s VCR flashing clock. Flash memory was quite expensive when the Mini was designed in the late 90s. That's right - late 90s. Or, if you like the preceeding century.
