R50/53 TRACKING BY SEA
>>3. Go to the US Coast Guard's Site and enter the Vessel Name and click search to search for the call sign. Record the Call Sign. For Example, the call sign for the Don Juan is SGIX. There may be several ships with the same name, but only one in service as a "Freight Ship"
>> U.S. Coast Guard Current Vessel Search
OK, went there and the Elektra does NOT have a call-sign. What do I do?

My guess is that it's either SIWB ZQZQ4 or VRS7695. I'm basing this on information from the International Telecommunication's Union Web Page at http://www.itu.int/cgi-bin/htsh/mars/ship_search.sh There are several ship's named Elektra listed, however those are the only ship's with an MMSI number (I can explan that offline, send a PM if you want to know more about MMSI's) which should be required for a vessel that size.

Thanks for the picture! I just went to the Accuweather site myself and got the same pic. Teach a guy to fish and whadda ya get! Self-Sufficiency! Thanks again!

If you are going to the west coast you can look for the ship as it goes through the MIRAFLORES Locks of the Panama Canal. This is last set of locks before the Pacific Ocean.
Here is the site
Miraflores Lock
You can also email them here aep-osu@pancanal.com and they will tell when when the ship will be at the locks. I emailed them about a week prior to the arrival date at Port Hueneme, and they told me when the ship was going to be in the locks. I then was able to watch the Hercules Leader pass by. It may be obessive but it was pretty cool......
