R53 Oil Filter Numbers

Starting off I have searched here and google and cannot find the answer to my question.

What is the OEM oil filter part number?

Is there a K&N oil filter that can be used and what is the number? I have found this number (PS-7024) but have not found a clear answer if it will work on a R53.

Oem filters, you will need the Gen 1 R50-R53 Filter OEM part number 11427512446 https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/11427512446/

PS-7024 ( HP-7024 is the newest ) is the gen 2 MINI filter for the 2007+ R55+ Models, last time i check K&N did not have a Gen 1 MINI filter. We have the ones listed below.

OEM 11-42-7-512-446. RealOEM.com is your friend. I only use the OEM filter. Some have good luck with Wix filters.

also try here they are great.

There are many mass-market branded filters that are purported to fit the R53's W11 engine, but many are not even close to the correct size, which may end up damaging your engine.

For that reason, I'd stay away from mass-market brands like K&N, FRAM, etc., and go with one of the following filters (in order of preference) that are known to be correct spec:

  • Mahle OX 175 D
  • MANN HU 816/2x
  • Hengst E31H D93

I have used the MANN HU 816/2x in both my R53 and current R52. I think I read somewhere in the past that Mann makes the factory filter but I could be wrong.

I would only suggest going with the Original MINI filters, we've seen many issues with aftermarket ones not fitting, not turning off the light, or leaking. Not worth it to save a dollar or two.

I tried to use a Mahl OX-175D oil filter today. It would not install. The I.D. of the hole in the top of the filter was too small to fit onto the engine. I measured the ID of the filter tops when the filter material was pushed in as much as possible.
OX-175 which had been on for 10 months: .910 - .920"
OX-175D (new): .845"
So I had to put on an STP S9584. which was available at Autozone. It's ID was .965" so it fit on fine.

The STP was much cheaper in price and quality. I counted the number of folds of filter paper:
Mahle: 70
STP: 60

17% more filter area in the Mahle.

I noted that the Mahle filter construction had a small hole at the top of the filter which the engine tube would have to push through when being tightened onto the engine. On the Mahle, it was too small and the filter housing would not screw on. Mahle must have changed the design of the filter. The OX-175 is not listed as available at Autozone or O'Reilly.

I picked up 4 of the 11427512446 OE filters from a Craigslist ad and I could not get them to fit inside the oil housing or the oil cap on my '06 R52 car.....it's like the holes in the end of the filter are too small

Or do I really have to force them on?

Yes that is the correct part number. You just pop it into the cap as it is a tight fit so it doesn't fall out when putting it in. I also will push something in the other end of the filter to make it slide in the housing a little easier.
