2006 MCS 6MT LSD Slickroof in SBM

Howdy!

I got a wild hair one day for a new project/toy and ended up jumping on a Mini I found.

My car is a 2006 MCS Space Blue Metallic 6MT LSD Slickroof. It had 66,000 miles on it when I purchased it on 7/31/2017 and it was rather clean overall, just needed some TLC.

I did not know this when I bought the car, but after running the VIN build data I was SHOCKED to see the "Differential Lock 25%" (LSD) on the sheet, I had assumed I didn't get one...man am I happy about that! Here's the options on the car (I trimmed out a few non-important ones):

Prod.date 2006-07-15 (late production )

S210 Dynamic stability control
S249 Multifunction function steering wheel
S2TA Differential lock 25%
S319 Integrated universal remote control
S3AF Roof and mirror shrouds, silver
S429 Interior surface, anthracite
S431 Interior mirror with automatic-dip
S450 Height adjustment, passenger seat
S473 Armrest front
S520 Fog lights
S521 Rain sensing wipers
S522 Xenon Headlights
S534 Automatic air conditioning
S550 On-board computer
S645 BMW US Radio w/CD player
S657 Radio, BMW Business/MINI Boost
S674 Hi-Fi System Harman Kardon
S692 Preparation, BMW 6-CD changer I-bus
S736 2nd radio remote control key
S895 Additional fan
S481 Sports seats
S228 Sports suspension settings Plus
S255 Sports leather steering wheel
S385 MINI LA wheel, X-Lite 84
S493 Storage compartment package
S546 Revolution counter
S563 Light package
S823 Hot-climate version
S845 Acoustic belt warning

Pictures! I'll add a couple of my favorites here as time goes along...

Looks pretty good and the LSD is some very nice icing on the cake.

Suggest you check the belt, the belt tensioner, the water pump, the crank sensor o-ring, the two power steering hoses that attach to the reservoir and the crank pulley.

Great find, but I found myself giggling when I got to the last item on the build list...

"S845 Acoustic belt warning"

All my cars have this, it is called "Squealing"

Motor On!

My car did that this past weekend, right before it shredded the belt.

Nice looking car, the limited slip is a rare option outside of the factory JCW cars.

I haven't even found some of the options yet - Where's the homelink?? It's on the visor in my truck, but not in the Mini (unless I'm missing it).

Also, what is auto mirror?

but yeah, I'm feeling really lucky to have this baby!

The PO says that the tensioner, crank pully, and belt were replaced in the last year. She squeeks the belt a little bit on cold start up - is that normal?

My hearing is not the best so would probably not hear a belt squeaking. Another thing that squeaks is the idler pulley. It may be going.

You have the convenience package with autodimming mirror, homelink (button on bottom edge of mirror), auto headlights and wipers. Nice to have. And someone ala carte added the auto AC which usually came with sunroof in the Luxury package (which means you dont have the computer?). Nice color, matches my first 2006 JCW . What does it have for seats?

Auto dimming rear view mirror. If you ever find something like black ink on your dash its probably the mirror leaking.

It looks like the person who ordered the car skipped the packages and selected individual options instead. For example, it has all of the Sport package pieces except the 17" wheels and it has all of the Premium package pieces except the Panoramic Roof.

I've always liked the Space Blue/Silver combination.

I have the "S550 On-board computer" but I still haven't figured out what that really is...

For seats I have the sport cloth seats in black and grey.

What is "S228 Sports suspension settings Plus"?

Yeah, it's nuts - I figure it was special ordered this way. Quite the enthusiast package!

I have bad news though...The radio was acting funny and after pulling the rear panel, I discovered I'm missing the HK amp and it's been ghetto wired to "work" without it.

So now I'm looking at an entirely new sound system because I'm not paying for a $300 amp that might fail again. Plus I'd like to have modern features like BT and hands free.

But man I was pissed when I found that amp missing :(

No blinker fluid, but auto dimming mirrors use LCD panels to shade the mirror. Google "auto dimming mirror leaking" and you'll find it's a real thing.

2006 Online Owners Manual

Sport Suspension Plus was standard equipment on the R53 and had larger front (24mm vs 22.5mm) and rear (17mm vs 16mm) sway bars than R50 suspension.

Mine does have the computer, but that reminds me I should have the car checked for recalls and such.

Nope, full paint correction and detail. Two day long process by a professional. It would take me a month...

Before....

After!!

Decontamination process...

Looking clean!
