Mini newbie looking for guidance

A couple days ago I was driving fine in my 2005 R53 with 86k miles. I turned a corner and saw a significant drop in power and my service engine soon light started flashing. I was able to get the car home. Once I got my scanner on it, it showed 2 codes P0303 and P0313. My buddy came over this morning and did a compression test and cylinder 3 had zero compression. Plugs and wires are brand new too. Am I screwed as far as the motor goes? Or is there another option? Any help is appreciated.

Maybe the compression test was not done properly ? Especially lacking other symptoms leading up to this event.

Just for the heck of it, try this.

Open bonnet pop off the plug wire from number 3 post on the coil pack ( drivers side nearest fire wall ) Examine for rust/corrosion.

It is known for that....and it will only happen to that one coil pack post.

If present, clean out the wire connector best you can with a flat blade screw driver and using the green scrounge side of a sponge clean off the coil pack terminal. Should not use anything more abrasive than a green scrounge side of a sponge for this, so no sand paper please.

Reconnect the wire and see what happens.

I used the sponge green side and cleaned it up but it still acts the same. My car sounds like a Subaru lol.

Try a dollar bill test. Put a piece of soft paper behind the exhaust pipe. Start the car and if the paper flutters, you have a burnt valve. A Mini Misfire code is a burnt valve in allot of cases. Good valves all around will make the paper push out like a flag on a windy day.

The tractor sound is also a burnt valve sign.

I don't understand how that tells you it has a burnt valve. Am I missing something? Lol

The paper is getting sucked back in due to the intake stroke 'pulling' through the exhaust.

Means the valve is burnt and there is no "compression" in the cylinder so no air is pushed out.

Do a compression test again. What do you mean there you ZERO compression on cylinder number 3? I've never seen a cylinder with ZERO compression.....usually it's low, but not zero. Even with no rings on the piston you will see 10-30psi in the cylinder when cranking the motor over.....unless you have a stuck valve or some other major issue .
