Teen Car Control Clinic - BMW GGC

Hey NAM teens and parents of teens,

Yesterday, BMW Golden Gate Chapter hosted a teen driver clinic down in Marina, Ca. Not sure if any of you were there, but there were at least 6 Minis in attendance. Mostly R56, R57 vintage, but a very good representation by the marque yesterday.

The event itself was billed as an intro and a skills development day Big take aways were the need to make sure everybody know how dangerous (and stupid) distracted driving is and the other key one, look where you want to be, not just at what's directly in front of you.

All the kids got ton of seat time too. Panic stop, skip pad, emergency lane change, and slalom. Most were pretty conservative at the beginning of the day, but towards the end as their confidence grew, they were all able to put the exercises together and put their cars through their paces and really learn how their car performed in all types of situations we will encounter out there on the roadways.

Anyways, I know this is long, but if you do get a chance, go for it. You don't need a fancy car and you don't need to be a racer. There are clinics for adults as well, but the curriculum is the same. Can't recommend this enough.

Pics, since what's a long thread without something to look at! (I do apologize, some of the pics are quite grainy since they were taken from far far away...)

Staging:

Staging for panic breaking exercise

Getting ready for Slalom

I was told a happy tire is a squealing tire...

I have my teenager registered for an session in DWF this October. The program is great because she can take it with a permit so she will be getting these lessons before being turned on lose solo on the road. If all goes well, I am buying her MINI this week, so that's one MINI that will be there

Thats great, I have been to the driving school like 4 times in Spartanburg, SC. Those are great clinics to learn how to control your MINI. Well done.

My son isn't a car guy so he didn't really see the value of attending. A lot of the kids there were also thinking this was a waste of time. They all changed their tune by the end of the day when they realized how much fun it was. Learning while being fun? How could that be?!?

Hope your kids have the same or similar experience.
