SES Light? Won't reset?

Hey Guys -- New member here from St. Paul, MN. I picked up an absolute cherry 2006 Cooper S w/ 35k miles on it a few months ago and am now having my first issue.

I have a Service Engine Soon light that popped up. I am scanning it with Android and the Torque App with a mini-OBD2 bluetooth dongle. No codes are showing up and it isn't resetting through the app. The reset completes through the app but the light stays on.

Any thoughts?

You need to find a quality scan tool or repair facility to read the codes, the reason you can't see them is due to them being manufacturer specific codes.

If you are clearing the codes and the light isn't going out that means the problem is still occurring.

Also from St.Paul, picked mine up a little over a month ago! Orr Autosports, EuroTech, and Imola should be able to scan it for you. Try auto zone if none of those work or possibly a BMW dealer.

Is there a tool I can buy that's cheap and can give me the BMW codes? It would be worth having for the future....

Very good question. I use to have a few BMW's and purchased PA Soft 1.4.0 which was great, I could do everything with it including writing keys, and modules with my laptop. I tried it last night on the mini and while it would read and clear the codes on several of the modules it couldn't read the DME which is controls the primary engine functions. I recently purchased a Bluetooth scanner to hopefully get some telemetry like boost pressure and intake temps but I am looking for something that is a bit more mini specific.

At this point in time I don't have any solutions but I am curious to see what you come up with.

The c110 will scan codes for every system on our cars. I have one and it works great.
