06 R53 "S" question

Has anyone ever experienced the wipers working in what looks like intermittent mode while off?
I was driving to work this morning and all of a sudden my wiper began to work without my turning them on. Also seemed to go quicker when I picked up speed. I tried almost everything to get them to shut off but they wouldn't. Any suggestions would be highly acceptable.
Thanks again

Do you have rain sensing wipers or regular? I have mine randomly wipe every so often and then I find somehow the switch was hit and sitting in that position without me knowing. Also, do you have a sunroof. They frequently leak at the drain tubes and the BCM that controls the car gets wet and strange electrical things start to happen.

R53 Electrical

Electrical issues are very difficult to diagnose...

Although there are 2 relays controlling the wiper (on/off & fast/slow), the intermittent function is controlled by the Body Control Module (in the passenger side kick panel).

Since this issue is with the intermittent function, there can be a 'connection issue' between the switch (in the stalk) and the BC module, or maybe a bad ground connection.

Another possibility is a corruption with the software in the BC module (requiring a re-flash by the dealer), or a defective BC module. (these have been reported in the past)

As an inexpensive test, the two relays for the wiper are identical, so you can switch the two to see if the symptoms change. These relays are in the engine compartment fuse box located at the end closest to the firewall. The one in the center is the on/off relay, and the one at the corner is the fast/slow relay).

Hope this helps!

I do have a sunroof and have check for water inside the car and have found none. I recently made sure the drain tubes from the sunroof were clean. I do not have rain sensing wipers. Thanks for your reply. Will keep my eye on things you mentioned.
Thanks

When this happened with the wipers I was using my original car key. Because I purchased the car used it only had one key. I ordered a new key at the dealership and strangely I used the new key today and the wipers did not react.
I called the dealership and my feeling is that the old key might have a battery issue because another thing I noticed when the wipers acted up is that when i exited my car and turned it off and closed the car door the car seemed to have locked itself because when i hit the lock button on the old key it didn't work. I unlocked the doors with the old remote then locked them again. Like I said the New remote had no issues today. SO I'm going to try to see if the R53 key has a battery that can be replaced. The dealership also thinks everything is related. Its worth a shot!
Thanks for your info It's great reading material and also gives me something to look at if replacing the battery is not the solution.
Thanks again.

Day 2 of driving with my New Key and no issues with wipers. Going to use old key over the weekend and see if the issue comes back. Bad thing is that Battery in the original key is not replaceable. Might have to spring for another key.

There's a member on the forum who does key repairs, I think even on the non-replaceable battery keys, and can probably replace your rechargeable battery. I don't remember his name, but he posted recently in another key thread.
