HELP Please!! I hit something.

Today at lunch, I was going thru a drive-thru, and on my way out, I hit a sidewalk curb. It made a loud bang noise, and when I pulled out, I noticed that the following piece was on the ground. There was no visible damage to the car, but I am not sure if I hit something underneath the car. I am not 100% sure that this piece came from my car. It says it is' "Made in Germany" and it has a bunch of numbers.

Can anybody shed any light on this? I am scared to drive the car as it may be a crucial part.

Many thanks,
Nando

Kind of looks like a jack point to me, but I'm definitely not the one to trust! Maybe that was already there & that's what made the noise...

What part of the car hit? Did you go over the curb? Details?

Not to worry. That is the jacking block. Looks to me like you can just jab it back in place.

I am not sure if I went over the curb or not, it happened kinda quickly. The piece that looks like it clips unto something was sheared off. I would probably have to get a new one. I am hoping this is not something to do with the suspension, and I will fly off the road when taking an exit ramp...

Who knows, you may very well fly off the road at the next exit ramp but rest assured, the jacking block won't have anything to do with it!

It looks like the part is OK from your pics. Push the pin, the thing that is in the missle that is split pack into the open part opf the block. Put the block back into the frame where it came from, and tap the extended pin in from the inside of the open part. The round head should be protruding a bit. That should cinch it down. If it fees solid, then you should be OK.

Thank you guys, I already called a dealer and they have them in stock. I will be picking it up right away. Part is only like $8.

Thanks a ton!!!

I don't think you need to buy a new one, just locate the hole it fell out of (two on each side) and pop it back in just like on the opposite side. It's extremely easy to do. Just don't run up any more curbs.

FYI... I would test that out before trusting it to jack the car... no need to lose a finger because something you didn't know cracked...

Yes, I agree, it is the jacking block and should pop back in. But if the dealer is going to get you a new one and install it for $8. I guess that is worth your piece of mind.
