Adding Bluetooth to 04 MVS HK NAV
I just looked at the prices for the 3 items needed to install the 06 vintage OEM Kit and I just can not even consider it.
Armrest Retrofit Kit - Anthracite - Priced As Kit
Brand: Genuine Mini
ES#: 79576 Mfg#: 51160398467 216.51 $216.51
MINI Bluetooth Retrofit Kit W/ Button Interface - Full Kit
Brand: Genuine Mini
ES#: 201283 Mfg#: 84640404810 202.10 $202.10
BMW / MINI ULF Module
Brand: Genuine BMW
ES#: 256900 Mfg#: 84109154358 514.07 $514.07
to add this OEM system to my 04 MCS is $932.68 Thats a bit more than I want to spend on a 12 year old car so I am looking at consumer products like the Parrot 3100 but I am seeing some folks reporting problems with iPhone 6s.
looking for advice as to what does work (I ran a 2004 vintage NOKIA phone with a nokia kit but when I got my iPhone 5 a few years ago it turned out that the nokia kit only worked with nokia bluetooth phones and only early ones at that it was done apparently before the standard was finalized... so for 4 years I have been using the aux input to the HK system for entertainment and pulling off the road to use the phone.
the Nokia kit put the microphone up in the sunroof and dome lite space on the left side where the sunroof button is on the right of the dome light and it is still there so I hope to reuse it.
I looked for info on what is working best today without much luck I think I will have to source a custom harness to avoid cutting wires but that of course will depend on the aftermarket Bluetooth kit I will end up with
so lets start there what do the best and brightest here recommend.

My solution was to get the input jack kit...
Then you can plug you phone in directly if you wish...
Or use a $15 plug that functions as a Bluetooth receiver and mic..you can add a cord to it to place it in a better spot.
I plugged my phone in and used an BT earpiece in the mini (I used a $50 plantronics)....sounded better...
I used the $15 blutooth adaptor in my work vehicle....
Both options were pretty cheap, and work great...and about 5 minutes to install.
Some want a perfect OEM like install ..but to be honest, those parts are $$$ and never worked great ...and they were obsolete from day one on gen1 cars they were delayed so long...
Parrot kits were popular for years...but now with $15 dongles, and having it built into most cars...killed the market.

Thanks ECST But $420.77 for the simple kit looks like it expects the three spoke MFSW with the phone button my 04 has the 2 spoke MFSW and its still more than i want to spend after getting the hk amp replaced,
Thanks Zippy, I do that now for the media on my cell phone my aux input to the HK has been in use for 12 years at first with iPods and then with the iPhone 4s with a Belkin charge and interface kit now used with the iPhone 6 I had not considered the bluetooth ear dongle thing I will look into that thanks.
I think one of the unites sold on this page will be needed if i go with the Parrot 3100
http://newministuff.com/1st-gen-phone-kits-28-c.asp
So I need to correspond with them to check them out as well.
OF course I can just keep doing what I do now have my iPhone set my answering message to "I am on the road and will return this call as soon as I find a place to pull over please leave a message." when I sees that I am driving.

Welcome. That's about it on the Genuine MINI side, unless you just hook up the jack .

I have the full Bluetooth version on my R52 and still works great. I like the full integrating and muting the radio. In 2004 to have factory Bluetooth was a rare thing.

This is the Pioneer SPH-10BT. If you are willing to change out your factory head unit, I installed this in my 2003 Cooper S and its fantastic. It uses your phone as the interface for the Radio and all other functions. The sound quality makes the factory HK setup sound aftermarket. The microphone it comes with I installed in the factory location on the sunroof trim plate next to the switch. Its very cheap at $120 new, and with harness and tax still less than $150. I'll post a pic in my car later. And not that I recommend it, but you can use video and watch youtube or have it playing while you drive.
