I broke a wheel tonight :( Time to upgrade!
So I purchased my R53 with 25k miles late last year with stock mini wheels, on my way home from hiking in the mountains today I tragically hit a large rock that bent the crap out of my wheel.
I was planning on waiting till my tires were bald before upgrading my tire/wheels but this has motivated me to upgrade early. I really like the look of the 16" wheels, example:
My question is what is the widest wheel I can get without worrying about rubbing?
Also, should I continue with run flats or should I get a spare? Either way also please recommend a specific tire as I Will be purchasing wheels and tires tomorrow!
Thank you very much!

Not much point to going wider wheel ( That is more than 36 et ) unless you drop some on lowering Springs, then stretch the tire to wider wheel and maybe add some neg camber. IMO looks off when not done that way. Keep in mind doing so will stress the wheel bearings a bit more causing premature wear/replacement.
For an R50/2/3 - You can go up to 36 et on 7 inch wheel and rubbing will be negligible ( if at all ) on a stock suspension that is in good condition.
Anything more than that, trimming of inner fender liner ( not good for panel rust ) will be required.
