So who has bought the 500'000th MINI

Someone in the USA has bought the 500'000 th MINI to be built, and its coming off the assembly line today, rumour has it that they will be actually at the factory to witness the event, anyone know who it is ? :sly:

If it is true then check with Gabe Bridger and motoringfile, he usually has the scoop on interesting things.

How lucky to get the 500,000th MINI.

Half a million of those little boogers in only some four years of production? Wow! I had no idear (proper Massachusetts accent) that Oxford was working that hard. Alec Issigonis would be proud.

Million Sellers

It would appear that MINI2 is going to be a million seller

That would mean I've owned 5

Model T
VW Bug
Morris Minor
Mini
MINI

How about you? What other Million Sellers have there been?

Mustang must have...Voyager/Caravan Minivans? Is so put me down for a Voyager.

jazmini Aug 24, 2004 03:28 PM

JoeDentist Aug 24, 2004 03:37 PM

I'm sure you'll be there to shake their hand though, won't you?

As mentioned, that is 500,000 world wide ... only 81,000 in USA so far (graph)

lurch70 Aug 24, 2004 06:57 PM

I am surprised at those numbers. Here in NY, I see at least 4:1 MCS to MC ...

Always thought the MCS outsold the MC ...

I see 10-15 MINIs a day. But then again, I do drive a lot.

I saw MC40 number 1000 of 1000 on Saturday....

Sold to somebody by Tate MINI in Annapolis.... And brought back because the exterior chrome is pretty thoroughly trashed:eek2: :eek2:   :sly: :sly: Looks like some kind of solvent discolored all the chrome. :sly: :sly:

MINI mania has hit a new high with the 500,000th model rolling off the production line.

US buyer Dan Cowdrey was flown in to the Oxford factory by BMW to get the keys at a special ceremony. Dan’s £16,000 silver Cooper S, which becomes a collectors’ item, also boasts a commemorative plaque on the engine.

Basically, he just bought a car that he shouldn't drive

1. Volkswagen Beetle, 1937
21 million made

2. Toyota Corolla, 1963
20 million

3. Ford Model T, 1908
15.5 million

4. Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit, 1974
15 million

5. Lada Riva, 1970
13.5 million

Just for comparison.

Just recently came across this bit in Automotive Logistics. Sounds like a pretty good deal provided by BMW on that sale. I'm guessing it's not often they throw in a free trip to the factory. That would have been cool but the wait after seeing the car at the factory probably seemed like a long time.

I know what you mean. We have ours ordered and so now we look for them. On a trip back north to Cinci I counted 4 up (3 on the road, 1 on a trailer), and on the way back I counted 5. Most were in the Atlanta area on the way back. This is on 75. We see a few in our central FL area, but not many. Looking forward to adding to the population.
