Well, she's dead! The 1 month rise and fall of my Mini

Dec 18th 2015 - Jan 25th 2016 : 1 month and 7 days of total ownership.
I put less than 1000 miles on her.
Put $1700 worth of maintenance in her to make her even more perfect. (Wasn't in bad condition by any means, just small stuff like oil change, brake job, wipers, lock actuator)

However; you can't account for all the other Idiots on the road. Kid decides he's gonna turn left across 2 lanes of traffic right in front of me and I nailed him. The impact turned both cars 90 degrees to the right so it made the accident look like my fault. The rear tire came off from where it hit a curb as it spun.

Everyone's alright, hopefully insurance is nice to me and i'll be back in another one soon!

I have to say, I'm impressed! Took it like a CHAMP! The comparative damage is crazy!

Sorry man! If you have USAA, they'll treat you well. Hope the other guy had insurance!

I feel for ya!
On a positive note, it looks like the MINI handled the impact pretty well. The front end of the Audi is way worse.

Sorry to see this. Wow, looks like the audi took most of the damage.

Major bummer...

Did the steering wheel airbag deploy? It doesn't appear so.
This is a substantial enough impact that I would hope it would.

Man that Audi took a beating. Hope to see you with a new MINI soon. Maybe R53?

I've got USAA and the car is insured under Liberty Mutual. However, a younger kid was driving and his last name is different from the insurance holder. We'll see.

No, the steering wheel airbag didn't go off. The passengers side curtain airbag did though.

I'm definitely going to get a new one. Probably Will stay away from the R53s. Not worth all the extra maintenance and stuff for that Supercharger. Now if I can afford a turbo one, We'll see. But my mini is just for a commuter and gas saver.

For what it's worth, my R53 has caused less trouble than my dad's R50. But if you're not driving "spiritedly", then yeah an R50 will save you some gas.

The R50 was plenty enough fun for me. I've got a 700hp truck for "spirited" driving lol!

I respect that. My dad loves his R50 to death. Had it since new in 2002 and doesn't even look twice at my R53 when we go out to the driveway except to point out how his is superior to mine

Glad your ok that looks pretty painful. For what it's worth I've got an r50 and r53 in my garage and I couldn't tell you which one is better. Any mini is better than no mini.

Sorry to hear, but glad everyone is okay.

As for all the Audi chatter... It did its job properly and absorbed the impact deforming all the crush points. If you want to see even better energy distribution check out Volvo's new tests or watch open wheel impacts.

That and it looks like it hit the R50 square to the axel (quite a strong bit of the car in that direction of impact)

The main blessing is you are OK, you will get another Mini one day. The R50 held up better than the bigger A4.

Wow, that sucks! Glad you're alright, and I hope the kid learned a valuable lesson.

Also great that you have USAA. They will do you right. Don't forget to submit all of the recent maintenance receipts when filing the claim. You should be reimbursed for a portion of that $1,700. Good luck.

We are going to see what the 2 insurance companies will give us first, then try and argue from there on the maintenance and stuff if it's not enough.

I've looked at Craigslist and a few other sites in my area. If I get what I want for the Mini i'll be good to go on finding a new one. I've found a lot in that price range.

Yea, now you can search at least for options you never got , but wanted on the old one. Good luck. Some pop up on cars.com and other places.

For those that may still care..I got a replacement!

2003 Mini Cooper S! I'm the 3rd owner, it's in great shape! 192k miles. Leather, heated seats, custom audio with Bluetooth, invidia exhaust from the headers back, reduced pulley, new tires. I love it!

New clutch, all maintenance done on time the entire life. The owner was STUPID meticulous about this car! His wife and him could not have kids so this was their baby!

Anyway, I'm glad to be back!

Hahaha!! Trust me, if I had, I would have lost that bet. I didn't think I'd be able to afford one in my price range in good condition.

I've already got a few mod/upgrade ideas...but I'm going to try and have this one longer than a month first! (HID low beams and LED light bar on the lower bumper are the top things right now.)
