Toggle Switch Connector Re-pin Help

Background -- retrofitting the factory foglights into my R52 -- got the retrofit kit for Christmas. Instructions say two hours -- let's just say add a zero to that estimate to true up my time on this project.

I need help adding two new pins into the toggle switch connector and cannot figure out how to open the connector up.

Mind you, I have already added a few pins to three other connectors in fuse panel three in the engine bay and none of those three connectors were put together the same way -- however, this connector completely vexes me and I am hoping someone will know of a quick and easy way to dissemble it.

Bottom of the connector looks normal enough

The problem is that the wires do not feed in from the top and it is like there is a cover that needs to be removed before you get to the actual connector and the re-pinning.

There is nothing obvious to me on how to dissemble this guy.

And I am not even sure that this comes apart.

So has anyone re-pinned this connector or completed the factory retrofit for fog lights and know how to get past this obstacle?

Thanks so much for the help!

Nat

Checking in on this ... I went ahead and moved to the next step and it turns out that helped me with my first problem.

Different colored plastic on the connector in the next step gave me an idea.

The connector slides apart -- all you need to do is push in the tabs on the side (I used a small flathead screwdriver) and you can slide the connector assembly out.

And that is exactly how the connector for the toggle switches worked.

So the good news is that I have everything wired up and was able to get all of the new pins in. The bad news is that the fog lights did not light up when I put everything back together.

I checked over what I could and everything looks wired correctly and hooked back up. I am hoping that the front fog lights need to have the computer flashed (same as the rear fog light) and perhaps that will solve my problem.

But for this post, hopefully it can help someone else who runs into the re-pinning problem.

Cheers!

Nat

I did this retrofit almost 10 years ago and would have posted earlier, but I couldn't remember how the connector came apart.

The fog light function does need to be programmed, so that the body control module can respond to the signal from the toggle switch.

Thanks for the good thoughts (that kind of mojo probably helped me find the solution in the next step :-) ) -- and thanks for confirming that programming can get my fog lights working.

Cheers!
