picked up my mc indi blue this afternoon. quite excited!!! first problem at the dealer is that they have lots of mc's to sell, but no owner's manuals available.

I need your help 'cause I can't look it up in the manual. Tonight when I got into the car the interior lights came on, very nice, but even after I started the car they failed to go out. How is this supposed to function?? Are they on a timer?? Had to push the dome light button to turn them off. They do go off if you leave the car and lock the car from the outside (with the remote or with the key). While testing this I also noticed that I am only able to lock and unlock the car using the toggle switch a few times and then it stops functioning; is this normal?? This also happened when using the remote key but would take more times before it stopped locking and then I had to resort to the key.

Also, though not as pressing is that my driver's door window rattles when I hit a bump or when I touch it with the door open.

Thanks

Too bad that they don't have manuals...how did they manage THAT? Anyway it's no doubt better to have the car and not the manual, rather than the other way around

You can get a dowloadable (PDF) version from Mini USA's website Go to the "Owner's Lounge", and click on "Your MINI" One of the options you'll see on the screen is "Owner's Manual."

Having said all that, I don't think the problem you're describing is mentioned in the manual. I've had it happen to me a couple of times, and both times it's been because the boot isn't properly shut. My advice would be to be SURE that the boot is firmly shut.

I haven't tried locking/unlocking the car repeatedly, so I can't say much about that...except that I'll try it tomorrow.

The window sounds like it's out of adjustment or something. I guess that's something to have the dealer check out.

Meanwhile, enjoy the new car. Have you got used to being stared at yet?

Thanks, but I live in Vancouver and can't access the US site's features to read the manual (looks like a superb site). I'll try it tomorrow again and make sure the boot is shut. The question I need clarified is if the car is functioning properly, after the lights come on, when you unlock the door, when do they go out?? Immediately after closing the door or a delayed timer or starting the ignition or some other way? In my case the interior lights are out, come on when the door is opened and would stay on indefinitely unless I push the switch on the dome light. (After that picked up our son in the family Toyota Sienna and locked and unlocked the door from inside 15+ times with not a problem). It was difficult for my wife to agree to let me buy my MC, I won't be able to live it down if it is a lemon!!!!

And yes the ride home was bizarre!!! Everyone smiling and waving and giving me the thumbs up!! And of course my neighbours coming over a good look!!!

The dome light is working fine this morning. Turn on the ignition and it goes out, very strange that it was only causing problems in the dark. Is there possibly a light sensor? Well I'll wait 'til tonight to see if it happens again before I call the dealer.

Just my two cents... I know that among other things, the interior light delay is something that can be adjusted for durration. Wheather that is a dealer adjust or a self adjust I don't know, as I'm still waiting for my S. But I've read that.

As in my embarassing experience with my BMW 323i you might have had the dome light switched on when you left the car. The lights automatically timed out to save your battery, but the switch was still in the on position. I can only assume BMWs work the same way Mini's do. The lights "should" turn off after about 90 seconds or when the ignition is started. Hope this helps!

FOUND IT!!!! after much searching I found it on Roadfly. Here is a link to a MINI owners web page that has the manual free for downloading Manual link
Just click on the word owners manual and your there. You still need Adobe reader and something to unzip it but it makes for interesting reading so zip away!
