Please Help!! Severe electrical issue
Hey guys I have an 03 cooper S. I absolutlely love this car. Im from pennsylvania, and i just made a road trip to seattle washington, then down to salt lake city utah and home. This car has never caused me problems. Now a week ago, the problems started.
I got into my car and turned the ignition on, at which point i noticed my interior turn signal light was flashing but my four ways and turn signals werent on. I couldnt shut it off. Then i tried putting my passenger side window down, and it wouldnt go down. When i pressed the PASSENGER side window switch UP, my DRIVER side window went DOWN. When i tried to put it back up, and i pressed the DRIVER window switch up, my PASSENGER window went down. Now neither will go up.
Also my headlights and taillights wont turn on, but my interior lights come on with headlights switch, and my brake lights work.
What could possibly cause this. This is my only vehicle, and i desperatly need to fix it. PLEASE HELP

1. Battery condition
2. Water ingress in the passenger foot well. This is where your BCM is, and when exposed to water it does as all electronics do.
3. Is the battery light on? Powersteering working?

A bad battery or a battery on its way out can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. The battery is perhaps the most important electrical component on the car, and due to its design and nature, is perhaps one of the most troublesome. Before doing anything drastic, you should make sure that your battery is in good condition. Make sure the connections aren't loose and also check the grounds. A normal battery should read a voltage slightly above 12 volts with the car sitting still, and no electrical devices on. (Don't worry about the door lights, they hardly make a dent). A typical reading would be in the 12.6-volt range when the battery is fully charged. If the reading is 12 volts or less (even seen bad batteries at 12.3), then the battery needs charging or needs to be replaced with a new one. To be certain, you can take your battery to your local auto parts store for testing. Lots more information on testing can be found in our tech article.

Sounds similar to the ignition switch gremlins, too. Many auto parts stores will test batteries for free. Some can test alternators too (low battery may be bad or could be a symptom of a bad alternator).
