And side note to my ECU issue. I took it to the dealer (against my better judgement) and same thing no communication at all. They wanted to keep it and diagnose the issue for $200 an hour but I declined. Cost me enough for them to tell me what I already knew.
So I bought a 2006 JCW ECU, BC1, EWS, Ignition/glove box/door Key/barrels and internal fuse block, should have that all on Friday if the post office doesn't mess up. Will see if that changes anything or if it's a harness issue somehow.
And before anyone says anything I have a set of 380cc injectors here to throw in and run a 17% pulley with CAI and cat back exhaust so the JCW ECU shouls be about right I think.

You are welcome and glad we could help make this happen. Can we use this pic for IG ? Instagram ? Are you posing on IG ?

I just read about a guy on MA that had his ECU tested and repaired at a shop in Florida called Specialized ECU repair.

Yeah I found that site while searching for info on this issue (very little out there) It looks like it would have cost a bit more to have that done than buying the full replacements I have and I would have been down 3-4 weeks or more with shipping from Canada to the US etc.

Fin,
Sorry to be so late again....(had to finish up my MINI)
Well it looks like you don't need that schematic from all if the stuff I saw you ordered. If still in need don't hesitate to PM. The paint and overall view of the car look nice! I am a huge fan of the true BRG on there.
Keep at it fin!

Thanks Spencer, might still need the schematics who knows if the new stuff will fix it or not.

I'm still waiting on all the ECU related parts, should be here Wednesday I hope.
In the mean time I decided to install the new Android stereo the wife bought me for my birthday last week. Was a bit of work but I'm pretty happy with the end result. The unit is a Quad core 1024X600 res screen running pure Android 4.4.4 KitKat. I had to mod it a bit to fit such a tiny space with the manual air diverter it was interesting to say the least. lol Here it is fired up, screen still has the shipping plastic on it so looks scratchy but it's not.

That's a nice unit!
Really clean looking inside of the dash area as well.(some units don't look right)
If I'm not mistaken you can use that stero and screen to monitor driving parameters with a software upgrade and cable. I'm not sure if the company name because I haven't set up a unit like that in years but it's certainly something to consider if you plan to take the Mini any further into the performance realm

Oh? I wasn't aware of software and a cable? I know I can run Torque with a OBD2 bluetooth dongle, I have all that and will use it if I can get the new ECU to connect.
And thanks I had to mod the acutal head unit to sit correct in the dash or it would stick out 3/4" which looked really goofy, angled the faceplate so the back could be brought up. It's a none CD/DVD unit so moding it was pretty simple and easy, just have throw the warranty out the window is all. And it actually looks far cleaner and less flawed in person, the flash just makes it look very dirty and scratchy for some reason.

I'm going to try and track down an old client that had me setup an android screen unit similar to yours with that integral system so I can find the name. I recently meet a bloke at a local car meet that used his in car touch screen
to control boost, meth, and maps all via touch screen. The tech is out there for the android units.

I figured it fit too perfect.....you had to have cleaned it up or just been very thorough in selection. Very nice when as always that unit could pass for OEM especially with your added wallpaper

Thanks again Spencer, and yes LMK what you find out from your client.

Oh and one last pic, I forgot I had a set of driving lights bought. I'm not a huge fan of the over sized standard driving lights so I tracked down a set of smaller ones for my install. They are LED and draw something like .04 amps a light, and they were $26 CND. Best "cheap" mod I've done IMO I really like the look.

Fin,
I spoke with another person about the management and diagnostic system and they have had great success with the TOAD unit ....apparently it requires some software hacks to get it to do everything he has optimised but it works without them.

Also........MONEYSHOT!!!! Really dig the low profile lights with the great stance, wheels, brakes, and trim details. Beautiful!

A little late to this Party, but just found this restoration build thread. Wow. Incredible talent and craftsmanship. Old British White is spot on for the flawless non metallic BRG. It makes the car really pop. No pictures of the back of the car, though. Probably looks just as good as the rest.

Certainly wish I had tools and instruction from a talented dad to be able to dismantle the Mini, do all that you did under, over and inside the car, and then put it all back together. My dad's idea of car restoration was to go buy a new car.

Your Mini turned out better than new. Wish you would have tried the Old British White on the dash. Might have been pretty cool (and maybe too bright?), not that the whole job didn't turn out fantastic, anyway.

I know it's been a few years but...Bump

Any update on the obd2 problems? Was there a problem with the ecu?

Did you get torque or another program working with your head unit?

How did your dashboard turn out with the BRG?

Amazing build thread!

I for one would love to know the rest of the history on this car. It just seemed to end abruptly. The builder was amazing and it didn't seem like any part was untouched.

I assume i bought this car from the guy the OP sold it to. The owner before me used it as a track toy to race at Castrol in Edmonton. Changes to the car at this point that i could tell are KW Clubsports, Sparco sprint seats, x-lite wheels, sticky hankook rs4 tires, maybe the exhaust, OMP steering wheel, rennline pedals and stickers.

Sparco seats couldnt stay as i need to put my daughter in the back seat and these dont tilt forward.

Dreaded tailight rust is begining to bubble a bit behind the paint. Canadian winters are rough.

When in calgary a friend and i raided junkyards looking for oem seats and a steering wheel for the airbags. Needed these to pass the out of province saftey. Junk yards around here never have minis. Found some tan seats i thought went good with the green.
