Tire pressure and traction control light won't go off
 

2004 r53 I tried replacing the front two sensors and it caused the abs light to go on also so I put back the originals. Also cleaned the back sensors and inspected connectors. All looked fine, no signs of corrosion. Any suggestions?

A faulty steering angle sensor will cause the TPMS and traction control lights to stay on.

Is there a way to check if that's working or not? And where is that located?

Also my dsc toggle switch doesn't work also...

A dealer determined mine was bad based on fault codes.

Currently trying to find someone with a code reader that I could possibly borrow since the dealership will charge a ton.

Does this mean anything for fixing my problem?

Depending on which monitoring system your Cooper has, there should be a button installed in the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel.

Vehicles with SET button
When a tire pressure warning light is observed, Check and inflate tire(s) to specified pressures. After correcting the air pressure with the engine off and the ignition on, press the "Set" button and hold (approx. 6 seconds) until the words "Set tire pressure" appear in the instrument cluster (instrument cluster high) or the yellow LED lights up (basic instrument cluster).

Vehicles with RPA button
Press and hold the RPA button until the RPA indicator and warning light lights up yellow for a few seconds

Vehicles with BC button (on-board computer function)
In the on-board computer function select "RPA" and "INIT" (LC display) with the rocker switch on the turn-signal/main-beam switch. Press the BC button to confirm.
Press and hold the BC button for approx. 5 seconds, until a box with a tick appears behind the "INIT" display.

Vehicles with Central Information Display
Initialization is performed via the Central Information Display (CID) and controller.

Select "RPA" in the "Settings" menu and confirm.
Select "Set" and confirm.
Drive off. The end of the initialization phase is not indicated.


I don't know what "RPA" stands for and which my car has.

You can try resetting the TPMS to see if the lights will clear. The reset button is by the e-brake handle and your Owners Manual will have reset instructions.

MINI Manuals

There's no TPMS sensors on those early cars. You may have a bad wheel speed sensor. Have it scanned with a scan tool capable of reading MINI specific faults. It'll tell you which sensor to replace.

No sensors inside the wheels at the base of the valve stem but the TPMS uses data from the ABS sensors :wink:
