I'm going to purchase a Mini...

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this but I have been interested in Mini and test drove one this weekend. I LOVED IT!!! In the next couple weeks I WILL be ordering a Mini S.

Can anyone give me hint tips and such in dealing with the dealer. Please email feel free to email me. reno_has_no_nhl@yahoo.com

Also I am in Reno with no dealer and the closest is in Sacramento. I've heard concern about purchasing in CA and bringing it to Reno and paying tax in both. Any one deal with this?

Thanks. Steve.

I would look east vs west of NV. It would be cheaper and/or faster to order the MCS with Classic Mini in OH and then have it shipped versus getting it in CA.

Do a search

If you search for out-of-state purchases you'll get lots of threads about it. As far as sales tax, you shouldn't have to pay tax in the purchase state, and as long as you do pay the same % rate as your home rate you shouldn't have any problems.

I bought mine in NY, paid 7.75% sales tax (same as if I bought it locally), registered in CA, no additional charges.

Stay away from Niello in Sacramento I hear they like to price gouge. East Bay MINI in Pleasanton has about a 10 month wait list at MSRP.

Here is a link to west coast dealers. Stay out of California the wait lists or price gouging is terible here.

Hi RenoMini007,

I'm in Northern California and I ordered from Julie at Classic MINI in Mentor, OH. If you're considering California dealers, the best advice I can give you is don't. Go east. Classic MINI is bar none one of the very top MINI dealers in the US, and Julie is an amazing salesperson who is very familiar with the out-of-state thing and will handle your every concern. They charge only MSRP and you get your order in immediately. I had my production number 60 seconds after getting off the phone with Julie on June 28. It's now July 27 and my car is almost finished with production and on its way to the US. :)

If you are willing to get out to Salt Lake City, you could order from the dealership there; I've heard of a couple people doing that. Since you're in NV it's even closer to you. However I wouldn't recommend having them ship it, but you could pick it up yourself. Classic is truly professional with their shipping and they do it all the time, so I trust them, but you're running a bit more of a risk asking a dealership who doesn't do this sort of thing very regularly to ship your car out.

Hope that helps, and let me know what you decide. If you call up Julie tell her Mike says hi. :) Good luck with your decision!

Yes, Julie at Classic is the best! She has some openings for Sept. production...and all at MSRP  and all are shipped in an enclosed transporter.

change your mind

I would suggest not getting a mini. Mine is on order for 2 months now and I still have 2-3 weeks to wait. Every day I drive my honda and try to take a corner at speed....It drives me crazy to have ordered one and not have it. Its such a long wait. But from what I hear the payoff for the wait is a good one!

I hope you are they type that likes to wait for good things.
