Powerflex Belt Tensioner Bushings...install question
 

Hey guys -- been doing a lot of work on the MINI and this is on the list for tonight -- fast question. Can I take this out without removing the whole tensioner assembly?

I currently have the car on jack stands doing the crank pulley. I wanted to do this job as well while I have the belt off. Can I simply just unbolt the two bolts that hold the tensioner on -- take it off, replace the bushings and put it back without removing the tensioner itself?

The tensioner is compressed with the pin holding it in.

Getting the damper off the tensioner is no problem, it's just the two screws that you see holding it on. Comes right off.

Thanks Vkng... just to be totally clear though -- I shouldnt expect some sort of crazy moment when the removal of the dampener compromises the integrity of the tensioner and I get judo-chopped in the face by the rest of the tensioner assembly right?

I can leave that firmly connected to the car?

It won't go anywhere. The spring is locked in place with an allen key or the factory tool, whatever you use, and the damper has very little or no spring to it at all. Two bolts, pull it off, that's all there is to it.

We install our WMW tensioner bushings all the time by taking the shock off only. The tensioner won't go anywhere.

Thank you way - just installed these tonight along with the WMW tensioner stop. Quick question - shouldn't there be Some tension to the shock? Mine felt like it was just pushing air..does that mean it's failed?
