bloo's seats

Just want to clear up the questions regarding bloo's seats. As a couple of times threads have been hi-jacked after viewing my piccys (sorry 'bout dat).

First of all, they are seat covers on original leatherette sport seats, not a new seat type. The covers came from DiamondRacing.com about 8 months ago. Hopefully they are still around.

They could be done in about a zillion different color and piping combos. The ones exhibited in bloo were sort of an upgrade and about $250 at the time. They are Wet Okles made of wet suit material and cover the complete seat, front & rear.

IMO, they're great because they cover the fragile plastic seatbacks, but you sort of loose the netting compartment. They also had rear covers. They were pretty easy to install, contoured and cleanup is also relatively easy. Due to the higher level of friction, they hold your butt down great in the twisties  .

Hopefully this will clear up the mysterious seats on bloo.

just one other question

Is the plate on the side of the seat shown the air bag deployment thingie?

I've heard good and bad on seat covers due to the air bag deployments availablility.

Can you provide some insight?

Yup, its for the airbag (already had it deploy once) .Its actually a void, not a plate. Haven't had any issues like sweating but then I keep my a/c on ALL the time in Miami unless its below 70 deg. The seats also provide an added ASSet. The extra foam on the seat gives some cush to your tush. Helps if you have the 17" rims.

ASSet. Can I say that here?:eek2:

For the last time.

It is WET OKOLE. Its a Hawaiian company. It is not OKLE.

Wetokole.com describes all the options. The seat covers sold in the mainland are actually made in a plant in California, so you do not have to pay shipping from Hawaii. I have had two sets on my 98 New Beetle and they are great - one of the few seatcovers designed to work with side air bags in the seat. The wet sut material is pretty indestructible, but a cigarette can burn it so quit.

Thanks for the correction, Doc. Must be my Spanglish kicking in  then again, my spelling was never up to par.And I don't smoke.......cigs.

Nice seats... where they hard to install? The web site has a link to "Installation" but there is no info there. I would only contemplate doing this if they are a simple slip-over something or other. I don't trust my DIY skills all that much.

Also, the gaps for the airbag, when they deployed on you, did the airbags function properly?

Thanks,
Nando

They slip on pretty easily.

As far as the airbag question... Didn't have them on at the time. But I can tell you that the airbags work. They ripped up the seat perfectly down the seams. Unfortunately my airbags deployed at a 4 to 5 mph side impact just where the contacts are located . The overheads deployed as well, windows slid down, hazards turned on and the car wouldn't start. $2100 :eek2: worth of damage.

Oh, well. Chalk it up to experience and keep your eyes peeled in parking lots.

Thank you, I get my MINI with black leatherette tomorrow . I fear copius sweating with the vinyl, and if that is the case, I will definetly go with the seat covers. I like the beige inserts for my White Pepper MCS/ Black roof.

Alrighty, then Spider......where can I see a piccy and seeing that I'm a cheapo, how much is this going to hurt my pocket  ?

SpiderKnight Jul 12, 2004 12:34 PM

http://www.wheelskins.com I think the Eurotones are about $50.

lectric bloo Jul 13, 2004 08:18 AM

Yippeeeee! Its a done deal. Thanks Spidey. $55 shipped in 3 days . They didn't have a matching shifter gaiter, tho  . Hopefully later, I'll have to keep checking back w/ them.
