I have had a Wilwood bbk for about a year and a half now. Lately I noticed that the driver side caliper creaks. It makes this sound while braking that kind of pulses, well at least it sounds that way I only hear the echo off of curbs or walls etc. I noticed though if I push the brakes while stopped it makes the sound as well, it follows the pulse of my foot (creak in, creak out, if that makes sense). The only thing I can think of is it is the brake pads moving across the clips that hold them in. I had to remove the pads last week to replace a wheel bearing and noticed a similar sound while sliding the pads out. Is there anything I can do about this noise? or is this just how they are over time as the pads wear? I also had a friend listen on the passenger side and he said it made no noise.

I recently replaced the clips that the pad slides into and the noise seems like it got worse. I have cleaned the caliper with brake parts cleaner and that doesn't seem to help either. I have noticed that occasionally while braking now what I am hearing is also transferring through the pedal. at times it almost sounds like a loud clacking.

 

While you have the wheels off take a tighten on the four bridge bolts that secure the two halves of the caliper body. What you're hearing is simply flex in the caliper- the two halves are pushing apart. Don't go nuts on them but be certain you cannot get a small turn on them is all.

Pad rattle is also heard at times; the pad "clocking" in the caliper body as it clamps and releases. That torque is applied to the body through the ss tension clips on the top and bottom. Take them out and put a slight bend in them again and clip them back in. They soften over time and don't hold the full spring shape.

 

I will check the bolts on the caliper body, just to be clear i want to make sure I can't turn them correct? Also the clips are brand new replaced last weekend.

 

I checked the bolts on the caliper body I was able to get about an 1/8 of a turn on one (wasnt't trying to hard). The sound has drastically been reduced since I tightened the one bolt. Sometimes I still get the clicking while braking the creaking while stopped is pretty much non existent now.
